What’s on your mind?

What is this structure you speak of? Come on you know you want to start a topic called “religion” that is a fantastic idea. Do it!!!

I hear you on that, absolutely. After my old, beloved cat had died, and I resigned myself to not being a pet parent, to ease travel & etc., my oldest daughter moved in with her two Boston Terriers for an entire year. She went to work and I was the full time dog whisperer and carer. I loved my charges, even before they moved in, but wound up being even more attached. The older dog who was only 9 had a series of devastating seizures one day, and after emergency care and diagnostics, he passed unexpectedly two days later. It was pretty sad, and DD1 had been in the process of moving into an apartment at that time; she was grieving and always wanted the surviving pup to be with her, understandably. I couldn’t abide the sadness, and the lack of fur babies - it was awful. So adopt a kitten I did, and was she a total freaking handful for awhile! I just don’t like to be without furry companions.

My mom had a siamese named gretel. Some stupid person presented her with a wrapped pink kitten collar and a note saying let’s go get your present one sunny Christmas Eve day. She was so excited. That cat hated everyone except my mom. And gretel was my hero because even if the butter tasted old and the bread was moldy there was always incredibly fresh meat purchased whole sale from the ;purveyor used in her bar. Gretel would only eat ground round and shaved steak. The shaved steak was kept in the freezer and my mom called them gret burgers Gretel would share and I could eat some of her meat. I was living in Homestead FL when Gretel was relaxing on the stairs and my mom tripped over her and my mom broke her leg. This amused my mom. Then she came to visit me still in a cast. She had to use a wheel chair but I have always been her beast of burden and we had a blast of course. That darn cat.

I’m sorry that things are so dire in your country, and hope things become settled soon. Also my thoughts are with you on the sad anniversary of your dad’s passing. I hope things become easier for you in all ways. In the meantime, I like your pictures and commentary about the things you plant and harvest. Thanks for your posts.

It’s striking how life, even in the midst of sorrow and chaos, keeps moving forward.

I am sorry for the grief and pain of personal loss, @LastManStanding , and for the turmoil and uncertainty in Sri Lanka. That is a lot for you to carry.

Yet, as you noted, the cabbage seeds have germinated and somehow the world keeps turning.

Makes sense to me!

If you do ever get to feeling like you’re missing feline shenanigans, many shelters/ASPCA orgs are in desperate need of kitten volunteers. Depending on the org, volunteer’s usually take home and foster litters (sometimes bottle feeding) and socialize the kits until they’re ready to be adopted (usually 8-12 weeks/2-3 lbs - when they can be safely spayed/neutered).

Also a need for cat people to socialize older cats and, yes, care for elderly and special needs ones, too.

I’ve thought about\discussed fostering. But I know me. I’d become attached and not want to turn them over when the time came. That’s how I ended up with my two tuxedo monsters . . . I was going to turn them over when they were old enough for fixing. Instead, I took them to my vet for fixing and next thing I knew 20 years had passed.

What a beautiful and eloquent post Elsie Dee, along with an awesome photograph as well. Yes, blooming flowers and plant life are gentle and lovely reminders that life does go on, even in the midst of tragedy and uncertainty. :green_heart::yellow_heart::blue_heart::orange_heart::heart:

As for what’s on my mind at the moment:

Why do I have this as an earworm?!

Awesome advice. Any bets on a foster fail though? Hehehe. Like gaffk’s kind heart would stand a chance. Dogs, cats, orphaned very young flying squirrels and even a black and white rabbit that practically mooed like a cow have formed a conga line and danced to our front door. Once a small black cat appeared before me meowing. There were all these kids and adults milling around but it picked me. I was relaxing In The Pool on the side of the deep part. What the heck?

Well I stumbled upon . I thought this was the carrot song . Renamed by muffin the palomino who dances to on my mind . Brian Culbertson waiting for a carrot. Summertime screen door closed blasting music. Yeah she dances

Simply beautiful. This is the kind of cat I want to have.

Need to slip over to cdc’s laptop and listen to that. I have a lot of trouble with my pets in that I tend to focus on endings. No matter what endings are hard. And for me at least can over write all the good parts. Trying hard to fight that. Anyone else struggle with that? I already posted about Gretel, my mom’s Christmas kitten but now for my beloved Ninja. We had lost Pixie who cdc had named because she came to the spca as a stray. Okay wrong wording. She died. After about two or three months one sunny afternoon Cdc was suffering from a cold. Way before covid and the infectious period had passed. He was feeling slightly cabin fever ish so we decided to make a visit to Dogtown, a dog and cat rescue place that also sold lots of pet supplies. Big big mistake. We were bum rushed by a welcoming pack of small dogs all wearing fashion statement belly bands. At least the boys were. They had a beat up pleather couch where we could sit. A medium sized boy immediately sat on cdc’s lap and he proclaimed the dog had conquered him. Soon a little very scruffy dog with an eye infection, Brussels jumped on my lap and after a few pets he went to sleep there. Cdc was not feeling a hundred percent and said we should go soon. That was when I uttered the words that sealed our doom. "What about that little dog behind the counter there? Shouldn’t we see him? The volunteers complied and there was this brown and white lblur. In one smooth movement Ninja jumped onto the couch, my lap, and started licking my face. Then he smiled at me. I have never had a dog choose me before. The helper said “now that’s impressive.” I must have raised an eyebrow because she told us “he doesn’t like everyone.” He looked like a little fox. Wearing a belly band. He was a senior with at least two other owners and the huge red flag was that he was a hundred dollars cheaper than any of the other dogs. But we were lost. He had a little online blur saying that he was an old boy who just wanted to rest on his big doggie bed. Senior my ass. Suckers that we were we filed for an adoption and they checked our refs. Approved! We even bought his big bed that he had lived on behind the counter for months. And belly bands. They pointed us to the dollar store for ultra thin maxi pads. During Ninja’s reign of terror I am sure their stock went up. He was the worst dog we ever had and even though we have Harley now I miss him so much. Wiggled out of his belly bands and peed everywhere, snapped and bit when we tried to put the band back on and never ever even once let us pick him up. I had to swiftly use a jacket to risk my life picking him up a few times. Nine pound chi terrier mix. Tried to bite the living shit out of the vet everytime. It took the vet, the vet’s son me and cdc and a thick blanket to get him checked out. Even then he almost slid of the table more than once. He loved walks and car rides and wanted to kill Simba our rescue cat. Until he didn’t Then he started to hump our male cat a lot. The cat was like wtf? We bought more belly bands in different colors and patterns and called them his belly bands of power each granting a different ability. The day we took him home from the rescue the helper seems astounded. He was considered an unadoptable dog. It might have been the sound of that champagne cork as we were heading out the door that gave it away.

Been thinking about you partly because Olunia is on vacay or something and I am mad at Respectfully but wanted to thank you for the kind words about this thread. “How you can diss the most benign thread is beyond me.” We really do agree on some things. I think people get it or they don’t. Now that health care covers them for free humorectymies a lot of people have gotten them. Pity. Anyway was wondering if you have ever watched Breaking Bad? Oh and went over to Mordor and learned that he who shall not be named is selling his Miata. #cry
