What’s on your mind?

Meanwhile I sowed some cabbage seeds. 2 days ago. They’re germinating.

My poor kitty sisters had to both be put down in the past year :sob: They were in their 20s and my previous pal was well into her twenties when I had to say goodbye. I am now at an age where I can’t make another 20+ years commitment, so I’m very much vicariously enjoying everyone else’s furmates.

Oh how fabulous - I would be missing him too! He looks like a wonderful baby and companion.

20+ years with a furry family member is a blessing. Our previous companion, the Dude, only made it to 12 :weary:

Awww . . . It’s kind of strange to get a cat when you return from college and have it well through adulthood. Less strange to get two early in adulthood and have them until you’re gray.

Very sorry to hear that you are feline less. You are so kind and thoughtful. My friend Conan’s mom is in her seventies and keeps going to Virginia for more puppies. Thing is she has excellent genes and will very likely outlast her pups. As for me, critters just show up here and other places asking to be adopted. I love my Simba (spca named him and I am leery of changing animals names) but the best cat I have had so far was an inbred barn cat. The farmer offered her to me and she was so loving. She was like my doxie’s big sister. Since I got to name her she was mostly called "f###ing cat. Maybe it is best that I let others name my pets.

Hmmm . . . my mom’s 93 and still kicking so I guess I could adopt another cat or 2.

My first (as an adult) was a very tiny calico my niece convinced me to take as her friend’s father was going to throw it out. (Not sure why, she was very quiet and well-behaved). The cat was cleverly named “Calico,” so I never changed it, but I did only refer to her first as “cat” and later as “old cat.”

The later two were part of a litter born outside of my house in NE Philly. They were tuxedos and easily three times the size of the calico (and they were so small and cute when they were kittens). One named Mole (large black spot on her face). The other was originally name Mardi Gras because her facial markings made her look like she was wearing a mask’ but that was soon changed to Malgato when I realized she was evil and kept trying to get me to trip down the stairs ')

I’m on my second cat as an adult, and she’s only three - if she outlives me, she’ll be well taken care of by H or DD2 (hopefully). It’s nothing that would have crossed my mind even 10 years ago, really. Have you thought of adopting a senior cat? I think that would be something I’d think about if I find myself pet less again. Anyway, you’re very lucky to have long lived cats! My previous cat lived to almost 20, so sad to lose her.

I’m kind of liking not dealing with the litter while enjoying the furry friends of friends and family.

To think I was told feeding them tuna was bad for them All three had a daily diet of dry Iams and a can of chunk lite in water. Maybe with better care and feeding they could have made it to 30?

Sorry about your senior cat. Saddest word in the english language: “petless” It is horrible when a senior citizen gets their car taken away. My mom did this to my grandmother and I am so lucky I was in another state and was not involved. But I know that what will really make me feel old is when I cannot care for a cat or dog. Who needs a car when you have pets. People in my bubble have had good luck with senior cats.

Forever…

On other threads people are talking about this thread as a good place to take tangential discussions. I think that is a great idea but could be unwieldy. However, IMHO it might work if if “What’s on your mind” broke into subcategories like “what’s on your mind…cookware, recipes, baking, politics, religion, sports, etc.”. Whaddya think?

Um…no!
The brilliance of this thread is the complete lack of structure.

I like the way you think. I had a break when my beloved doxie girl died. I got to read more. After four months I could not take it any more. I am weak. And I even had Simba by then. Cdc leash trained Simba as a kitten and walks him most days on his harness. Simba loves it. And even though my hobby appears to be bashing Conan’s mom I saw her walking her Stella and this inspired us. Oh please don’t do that to yourself dear. I have walked that painful path and I do think some genetics are involved. At least that is what I tell myself to keep what little sanity I have. These little darlings can drain you dry.
