Wow! That’s gorgeous. Hmmm…maybe his work is for sale. Googling.
I’ve dug into these sorts of “peacefulness” or “freedom” country indices and now tend to take them with a grain of salt. The authors generally use a lot of soft/qualitative factors in their rankings, which can make results fuzzy.
Any list containing the “most” or “best” of this or that should be taken with a grain of salt. Such topics are a lightning rod for criticism. I’ve ran into it before. Oh well.
In any case it’d be a challenge finding many better resources for such a topic than Vision of Humanity.
I am done with the arrogance, self-importance and belittling of entire cultures that some on here love to do. Every post that one person writes puts down American tourists. I am sick of it. Yes tourists are not nice sometimes, but you know what? Neither are Europeans. Ok we get your point- us Americans suck but your country benefits from our money in more ways than one. Don’t like it? Then don’t take our money-easy peasy. Every country has it’s arseholes and nouveau rich trash. Putting down all American tourists is easy just like me talking about how bad the few Europeans I met have smelled and acted. Assuming everyone from Europe smells or every American tourist is an ass is group think and aren’t we supposed to have moved past that? I guess some persons in Paris didn’t get the memo. I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt first, guess they weren’t taught that in France or England. You ain’t all that and a bag of chips when you pee in public and your city smells like pee- just sayin’
I unapologetically hate everyone everywhere. My closest relationships are with the meat cutters, cheese lady, and the checkout staff at the market. I have a few dozen favored business associates and professionals but that’s all they are. However the market people are family.
I used to like people until people ruined it. I just find it inconceivable that people this day and age make mass assumptions about whole cultures, races, ethnicities, or cuisines with only one experience. It just boggles my mind that so called “elite Europeans” would act this way. Aren’t they supposed to be better than us low brow Americans? Aren’t they supposed to be more cultured, more refined, more accepting of everyone and thus better people than us? Again aren’t we supposed to get the know the PERSON and not make assumptions based on their looks, race, country of origin etc.? Frankly the downing of American tourists says more about the person who is doing it than the tourist. You can make comments on the food and restaurant, but when every post you make put downs a whole country, YOU are the one with issues. I don’t why this surprises me though, people are awful and aren’t going to change.
Some folks could use a lil more bourbon in their lives
Lololol
Personally, I’m more of a scotch gal, but whatever calms the nerves…
He can’t afford Scotch because he doesn’t even have a job. He is a real slacker.
Recently reading a thread about which words irritate people.
There was a bit about grammar and at the end of the day, I look at the message in the post and not whether the grammar, spelling or math calculation are correct .
I know the different homophones (words that sound the same but are spelled differently eg. Flare, flair or Break, brake etc.)
yet when I’m tired I will mix them up because I’m concentrating on my message and not the homophone.
So fair warning, I’ll be irritating many on that thread.
@Respectfully_Declined love the doggie photos and captions !
This is on my mind.
Someone asks for tips on say, a commercial salad dressing, or perhaps, boxed macaroni and cheese.
Half the replies are posters saying they don’t like commercial salad dressing/ mac & cheese, that their homemade salad dressing/ mac & cheese is better.
Most of us make a pretty good salad dressing or Mac & Cheese.
Boxed Mac & Cheese is ready in 9 minutes and hits the spot. There are ways to dress it up and make it better in a few minutes.
Sure, I like Martha’s Perfect Mac and Cheese better, which contains a pound of gruyere and cheddar, but I like KD, Annie’s, the takeout Mac & Cheese from Whole Foods Hot Bar, too.
Sure, tell us all how good or east your homemade versions are, but maybe give some helpful comments, too.

Someone asks for restaurant recommendations for an anniversary party in Anywhere Beach.
Seven people suggest a restaurant in the area.
The OP then writes seven responses on why those restaurants are not what they want and why they won’t work. Too casual, too formal, not enough vegetarian options, too everything and not enough everything.
If you come here asking for recommendations, and people give you recommendations, your only response should be “thank you.”
Or when requesting recommendations try specifying some parameters? Price? Cuisine? Proximity to a certain location? Attire?
Yup on both. Be specific in your OP, and hopefully, you’ll get more info to your liking.
I am reminded of a thread I started ages ago on Chowhound in which I asked for instant ramen recommendations, because sometimes all I want to do is boil water and throw soup mix in a styrofoam cup. I got many helpful suggestions, and of course also the (seemingly inevitable) arguments that it was so easy! and takes no time at all! to make ramen from scratch.
Those people should be very grateful for Chowhound’s heavy-handed moderation, just sayin’.
That happened with my best frozen burrito thread too.
You’d think I’d committed a capital offense.
Sometimes all you want to do is push the microwave button.
