A thermapen is on my Christmas list this year
cook a steak, check a forehead for fever all in one contraption!
My shot glass.
12 inch tweezer. So much better than tongs.
You’ll beed a chaser with that shot.
Unfortunately Thermoworks doesn’t seem to make the one I have anymore. They made it for a short time, maybe 5 years ago, but I think they had quality issues with it. I had to return mine within a few months, but the replacement they sent has worked just fine for 4+ years. I use it for all kinds of things.
I wasn’t thinking about them too much too, but when I googled “gadgets”, they came up.
Wow, Im surprised. I always thought of a kitchen gadget as something handheld.
Learned something new today…thank you.
Just don’t think about appliances being gadgets! So, IMO, gadgets are small, useful things. Since I’m not tall, tongs are essential for nabbing things that are barely out of reach - couldn’t live without them. Following would be a really sharp peeler bought at an Amish store, a cheese grater, and a sharp paring knife. I do love gadgets, so a little hard narrowing things down…
Not including knives or tongs, since they aren’t what I think of as “gadgets”, I’d say those scales that let you add ingredients by weight, a stick blender, and instant read thermometers.
@Lambchop,
I agree a sharp peeler and grater are a true asset in the kitchen couldn’t live without them!
@shrinkrap,
An Immersion blender is a lifesaver for hiding things in food that my son refuses to eat.
Scales are handy for baking. Is that what you use your scale for?
Love the scale! I’ve converted most of my recipes for it and it is just so cool not to have to dirty a cup, half cup, tablespoon, or teaspoon (etc.) to add ingredients (just throw them in from wherever you store them) - plus it is way more accurate for baking).
Yes, but mostly spice blends.
I think of gadgets as an unnecessary tool like my cherry pitter which I enjoy having regardless of its uni-tasker ways.
A foil cutter for corked wine bottles. That’s what I search for most often…
My vegetable peeler, my rasp, my jar lid popper, and my Danish dough whisk.
I have no idea too. I think it just depends on the definition. I usually think of gadgets are specialized tools, which is why I don’t usually consider kitchen knives as gadgets.
A spurtle. Once bought for me as a bit of a joke gift, it’s the ultimate tool for making oatmeal, which is often what’s for breakfast. I actually wore out my first one from many years ago and received a new one just last year. And, come on, it’s fun to say.
This is the one I have:

A pliers. It pulls pin bones from raw fish fillets and opens bottles with sealed on screw tops, among other tasks.
