Silly fun. I liked it.
Yup. Posted about it here a few days ago (but the link doesn’t show the preview
Scandinavian humor is my jam.
Three Pines a detective show set in Quebec on prime is very interesting.
A little variety:
Last Wednesday I saw, for the first time, Alejandro Jodorowski’s The Holy Mountain, a dream-like allegory that is sacrilegious, surreal, and stunningly gorgeous by turns. It won the Palm d’Ore at Cannes in 1974. Serious ‘film nerd / art student’ territory and probably not for most people, but I really enjoyed it.
In stark contrast:
Christmas, Bloody Christmas is an original
From Shudder, the horror streaming service. If Violent Nights was Santa as Bruce Willis in Die Hard, Christmas, Bloody Christmas is Santa as Arnold in Terminator. Plot summary: a robo-Santa goes haywire, starts killin’. That’s it. Low budget, lots of fun practical effects and stunts, fun slasher-style kills. If this description appeals to you, this movie delivers in the ways you want.
Also tried the first couple of episodes of the Netflix Wednesday series. It’s unlikely I’ll finish. It’s taken out most of the humor from Addams’s original strips, the old tv show, and the 90’s movies, and replaced it with a very done-to-death ‘hot young people at school’ mystery show with handwavey supernatural elements. I don’t need another CW show. Even the CW is getting rid of a lot of its CW shows.
You may not be the target audience. My ten year old daughter enjoys it!
I suspect this is exactly the case.
Well, not everything is for everyone. If it was, I wouldn’t call it all ‘sportsball’.
Watching Wednesday as we speak, episode 4. Not the greatest tv show ever, but nice ‘ambient television’. Looking forward to the new series of Emily in Paris as well, which may come out any day now…
Thanks for posting the review - it reinforces everything I was thinking about not needing to see this piece of crap.
You’re welcome, sunshine
Was that the Trolls series? Asking for a friend. Speaking of trolls though…
I believe @Chatsworth is referring to @chienrouge’s and/or my post about “Cocaine Bear,” which looks like a riot… to me, and other posters, at least.
But I’m of course always happy to save someone from wasting what precious little time has been given to them on this planet
Ok - understand and thanks for the clarification! Cocaine Bear does seem to be up my alley, Wednesday not so much (after the reviews) anyway.
Apologies!
I did enjoy both “Trollhunter” and “Trolls,” the recent movie on Netflix.
Good to know! I def don’t know about Scandinavian humor, but BIL & SIL lived in Norway 2 years post doc. They did send us a troll, and a book about trolls, so do know that is a whole thing there.
Plz watch Lilyhammer if you haven’t. It’s with Steve van Zandt, who sortakinda reprises his role as Silvio from the Sopranos. He’s great, of course, but TBH the Norwegian actors totally steal the show
Shows with a young and powerful female lead are gold in my house.
At an early age my daughter repudiated all of looney tunes (and many many more supposed classics) - no girls !
Prequel to Helen Mirren series:
That looks cool thanks for the tip
Always thought Jodie Foster SOTL was a great role still a bit too mature right now.
Cruella had a powerful cast and some edgy musical scenes in that vein a bit younger target. Emma Stone. Emma Thompson. What’s not to like.
It’ll be a while before she graduates to:
“genre of television that you don’t have to pay attention to in order to enjoy.”
That’s what I like!
“Shows with a young and powerful female lead are gold in my house.”
Not so young, but in that vein I’ve been watching Start TV
I do try to pay attention to “The Closer” and “Major Crimes”
What is “CW”?
