Watching 1923
I might try “Knives Out” next. Keeps popping up on my "curated " feed.
For those of us that watched 20/20 (among her other shows) Barbara Walters passed away.
Barbara Walters
It was alright. Better than the first one, I thought. But Daniel Craig’s abysmal attempt at a “Southern” accent is downright distracting.
There’s a Knives Out 2 !
How distanced from the society I have grown during the last 3 months! This tourist guide license course is rotting me. I too liked the movie. Checked out the cast, and it’s a must-watch for me. Daniel Craig and Edward Norton. Oh, and Catherine Hahn.
In my country Korean drama series are an obsession. They’ve surpassed the Indian TV series in popularity.
The Bear - kinda boring? I mean, it was the best series of 2022 as voted by the Guardian so I had lofty expectations but it turned out just okay. In no way comparable to say the brilliant White Lotus 2 or The Offer.
Amazon Prime’s Jack Ryan - oh how I missed good old fashioned spy thrillers! Really nice so far, I’m at episode 3.
Next up will be 1883.
We have similar tastes. After Jack Ryan and 1883, we watched the 2 available episodes of 1923. Then we watched 3 Pines, which I didn’t really get into.
Good thing it’s not 1899, which just got cancelled.
I liked The Bear, but didn’t get the mega buzz about it. But then I also much preferred the 1st season of White Lotus >ducks<
AND I rewatched “Don’t Worry, Darling” just a week after seeing it the first time. It’s a great mindfuck with wonderful fashion.
I’m blah on S3 of Jack Ryan. (Also, they decided the love angle was too hard so the lady is gonzo.)
ETA: may have colored by watching Treason first.
Indians are also watching k-dramas
I recommend Treason and The Recruit on Netflix.
really enjoyed it
For those of you with smaller ones underfoot, if you didn’t take them to Disney’s Strange World, it’s now on offer on Disney+. I genuinely don’t know why it underperformed at the box office. Something something marketing something, I suspect. That hasn’t stopped the online grieffers from claiming it’s because it’s too ‘woke’. (note, the wokeness, in this case, is 1) An interracial marriage resulting in a mixed race child. 2) Said male child has a crush on male friend 3) The plot is all about the possibility of giving up a fuel source because to continue to use it will literally kill the environment supporting our protagonists.)
Personally, I found it a rather fun old-school sci-fi explorer adventure, with a lot of really nice father-son bonding stuff and some really inventive set/creature design and, per usual, gorgeous animation.
Worthy of a watch on its own, with or without small ones.
We don’t have satellite/cable and are too old to learn streaming. I almost pre-ordered the dvd set back in November on your recommendation. Then I read up on the show. It seems that’s not the way it all went down. I understand fictionalization and how it works. Guess I just want to keep the mystique of The Godfather the way I remember it. Movie & the book.
There really isn’t much to learn with regard to streaming, and the shows and movies available are well worth it. Netflix for sure.
You are correct. To make life easier for Sunshine, I got her the ROKU with a voice remote. She just tells it what she wants/needs and it does the rest.
Moreover, there are A LOT of FREE channels… Her favorites are Pluto, Xumo, Tubi and Freevee (all free)!! YEA!!
I’m more of a youtube and Roku Channel watcher.
I’m a hardcore Godfather movie/book fan. Book first. Obviously they couldn’t stuff it all in the first movie. I held back on The Offer because I figured it would be more fiction than fact. We just watched the first three episodes. Is it more fiction than fact? Who the heck cares. This is one helluva show. I fully understand why you wanted to stretch the episodes out.
“Finally finished The Offer and it’s a must for any serious movie fan as it has a lot of references to other movies besides The Godfather, to famous people in show business (for example the relationship between Ali McGraw and Steve McQueen) and to popular culture of the 1970s. (And of course it’s one the best series of 2022…)”
Definitely, this is a trip down memory lane for The Godfather and Hollywood.
