Tried the Popeye’s chicken sandwich before they ran out, and thought it was great.
Just had BK’s Impossible Burger yesterday, and couldn’t believe how badly it sucked. Dry, flavorless (except for a faint char flavor), and had a nasty aftertaste. Also not cheap @ $6.40± out the door (with cheese). GF said I should’ve taken it up to the counter after the first bite or two, and demanded a refund. I wish I had. I guess it’ll be another few years before I set foot in BK again – previously it was for their Cheeto Fries, which weren’t good either, just orange.
We did Burger King’s classic v. Impossible Whopper challenge for $7. The Impossible was perfectly fine, but the beef burger was smokier and beefier/had more umami. I easily identified each one in a blind taste test. The Impossible Whopper had that telltale mealy soy/alternate protein texture. I’ve made a Beyond Burger at home, and preferred that:
The BK fries were terrible and the chicken nuggets we got our kiddo not much better. We agreed the Impossible Whopper was a good option for vegetarians or those avoiding beef, but we couldn’t see ourselves returning. BK rates below Wendy’s, MacDonald’s, and numerous other fast food chains for us. We generally only eat true fast food on road trips.
Wish we had a Popeye’s nearby.

Jeepers. I read the article so I know the answer to my question isn’t there: are the additional sales coming from other fast food outlets or is BK drawing in new people to that market?

I tried it today and it was not good. Sort of tastes tingly or chemically or something. Like their “American cheese”, but there was no American cheese on it.
It might seem odd that people would consider a local MacDonald’s to be a beloved neighborhood institution and perceive its demolition as a kind of gentrification - but lots of people in West Harlem feel just that way.
I do understand BTW - even homeless people can eat off the 99 cent menu and a lot of McD’s are hangs for older people in the neighborhood, as this one is. Whatever Columbia U has in mind it likely won’t serve that public.

Elsewhere, we’ve seen morning (observably older) patrons gather for an hour or two over at least a cup of McCafe coffee and making no “trouble”. That’s when MCD serves the community more than its menu; and the owner/manager/staff appear happy to extend the hospitality and provide a useful service. It’s the others who ruin it for the rest of us, be they the ones the staff have to shoo away or the neighbors who just don’t get it . . . Sorry to hear your take on CU, because the Lions we know wouldn’t think that way.
