What Did You Drink Today (non-wine) #2?

I had a couple drinks on Sunday at Smuggler’s Cove in SF:

The Mastodon - a Smuggler’s Cove creation with rum, bourbon, pineapple, lime, passion fruit, licor 43, maraschino liqueur, very nice.

And an Expedition - another Smuggler’s Cove original with rum, bourbon, coffee liqueur, fresh lime, cinnamon, vanilla, honey, also very nice - the coffee liqueur and probably the vanilla gave it an interesting twist, like a coffee tiki drink.

Man o’War
2 ounces bourbon
1 ounce orange curaçao or triple sec
1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
1/2 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
Garnish: lemon peel
Garnish: brandied cherry
I used orange peel and Bourbon Bada Bing Cherry. A nice change from Manhattans.

Shaken or stirred?

It’s supposed to be shaken, served up. I’m dangerous around stemmed glassware so I stir and serve on the rocks.

Bourbon is now made, I believe, in all fifty states. My son in law makes Milam and Green, and my neighbor two doors down is an investor (and volunteer staff) at Garrison Brothers. I love them both. Regarding bourbon, I believe somewhere else in this thread you mentioned Four Roses Small Batch. I love it even more than their single barrel. I had surgery on my toe this morning. I plan to pave the way for dinner with an OGD Oscar Foxtrot.

The Highbush Solution from Shake, Strain Done by JM Hirsch - you muddle blueberries, mint leaves and simple syrup, add vodka, ginger liqueur and lemon juice and shake with ice cubes. Double strain into coupe and garnish with blueberries. The original recipe has a 6:1 vodka/ginger ratio but this one was more balanced for us

1/4 cup blueberries
3 large mint leaves
1/4 oz simple syrup
2.5 oz vodka
1oz ginger liqueur
1/4 oz lemon juice

I have a cold, so it’s hot toddy time. A couple of days ago it was Jameson’s; maybe tonight it’ll be Maker’s Mark.

Have you ever heard of Jägertee?

I haven’t seen this specifically, but occasionally I’ve added tea to a hot toddy.

Originally , Jägertee was a drink hunters would have used to warm themselves up.

Similar to Gluehwein one of the few alcoholic beverage I don’t get - tastes awful. The only other is a Blood Mary

I find a cold martini more efficacious than something warm.

My brain still thinks it’s 7:30 and not 8:30 so Bowmore 12 to the rescue!

Bicicletta, like a Campari spritz except the bubbles come from the soda instead of sparkling wine. It would be a nice summer drink.

I have always liked Campari and soda with an orange wheel much better than a spritz. I could, however, see replacing the white wine, if you just had to include wine, with Punt e Mes.

And then you have an Americano, which I prefer to the spritz because I rarely have sparkling wine.
