Never did watch his show, but I appreciate he’s back.
We watch the monologue. Same with Colbert. Guests if we’re interested in them.
Yeah, we used to watch Colbert’s monologue & occasionally the guests. My PIC is no longer interested in political commentary, regardless of how entertaining it might be, so I kinda fell of the wagon as well
We started watching The Night Of on HBOMAX. Two episodes in so far. It’s very well done. Though the story line isn’t very innovative, the acting is good and we’ll stay with it. It got very high scores on Rotten Tomatoes and one of the leads is John Torturro. James Gandolfini is credited as Exec Producer of this 2016 series.
That was a very good limited series.
Is that the one about the cab driver?
We started watching Black Rabbit with Jude Law & Jason Bateman last night, which is set in a Brooklyn restaurant owned by two brothers. Fantastic first episode — some food scenes, some scenes of the haute volée, and very tense. We watched 3 episodes, and I would’ve watched another one if it hadn’t been too late.
First episode was better than the entire first two seasons of The Bear IMNHO.
Looking forward to binging the rest
When we were watching it I told my wife that this is what I wish the Bear had been like.
I agree 100%.
Well, it’s his father’s cab that he borrowed that night.
We watched the catastrophically boring and bad The Long Walk, based on a Richard Bachman/Stephen King short story from the early 70s.
The plot is pretty straightforward: a ‘lottery’ drafts a boy from each US state to walk at a steady pace of 3mph until only one boy is left. Anyone who falls behind is shot by the army accompanying the march. The whole thing is supposed to motivate a destitute and desolate populace following a ‘war’ to work harder to achieve their dreams — or at least a better GDP.
Makes total sense, doesn’t it?
So… no major surprises, lots of unnecessary and repetitive close-ups of shots to the head, a diarrhea incident I could’ve done without, and really badly written ‘characters.’ No wonder all the actors are nobodies — excluding Mark Hamill, who plays the asshole major. Guess he needed the money
The only reason we went was based on the suggestion of a buddy, who’d offered to get us tix on cheap movie night.
Still a total waste of money. You’ve been warned.
WhenJimmy Kimmel’s show was suspended a few days ago, I thought about what he should say when it resumed. I thought about Jack Paar, who on returning to The Tonight Show after having walked out a month earlier (in 1960), started off with “As I was saying before I was interrupted”. Here’s Paar:
And that’s exactly what Kimmel started with.
Watching The Girlfriend. Love it!
We have only two episodes of Black Rabbit left, unfortunately.
It’s another show where I have my Shazam at the ready at all times. Great soundtrack.
I watched the first two episodes of The Lowdown, and I am really enjoying it. Ethan Hawke is fantastic. It was created by Sterling Harjo, who also created the excellent underrated Reservation Dogs (which Ethan Hawke briefly appeared in). It also has some appearances from other Reservation Dog actors (since they both take place in Tulsa). If you enjoy really quirky shows and movies, like Fargo or any of the Coen brothers films, you will enjoy this. It’s on FX and Hulu.
just saw PTA’s new film One Battle After Another. it’s a very timely film and there’s a lot to take away. it keeps getting described as propulsive, and that’s very accurate. it constantly zigs when you think it will zag. the car chases are worthy of Friedkin. the cast is across the board excellent, but Sean Penn’s character is something that i won’t be able to forget (as much as i may like to). besides, Sinners, i can’t think of a better film i’ve seen this year.
I watched the first episode, and I realized I am sick to death of shiftless manboy main characters who are inexplicably irresistible to women. So this one goes on the back burner.
I loved Reservation Dogs, and it seems like Harjo needs Waititi.
Yes, this show isn’t for everybody. It can be a little over the top. People will either love it or hate it.
Superman. The first half hour was so bad we almost bailed, but then it got better and ended up being a lot of fun. Mrs. Maisel! Gideon! Noho Hank!
I’ve been enjoying The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy on Apple TV. He seems much more relaxed than in previous seasons, and there is more emphasis on people and places, and less on ridiculously expensive hotels. So far, we’ve been to Oaxaca, Vienna, and RVing through the South. Fun!
