What are you watching? - 2025

Loving this aspect of the new season of The Reluctant Traveler.

Levy is at his best when he is interacting with people, in his persona’s signature awkward manner, and learning about traditions. His vulnerability is part of the show’s charm for me.

I watched the Day of the Dead one and though it was very basic. Like, Levy (who I like) doesn’t seem to know anything about anything, which I found off-putting.

Maybe he’s pretending to be clueless for the sake of the viewer? I vaguely remember watching an epi or two of the first season. It was just ok for us — probz dinner entertainment for us at the time.

But it’s not endearing. He just comes off as ignorant.

One of my all-time favorite movies with that ensemble.

Lord Guest and Mr. St. Hubbins didn’t have to sing for their supper. They were preempted:

I almost forgot we watched The Naked Gun a couple nights ago when it was finally more affordable for streaming. It was pretty much what we’d expected: harmless fun.

We also watched the first episode of The Lowdown. Entertaining enough, and Ethan Hawke can play almost anything.

Just saw ‘One Battle After Another’ at the movie theatre. It was a blast - really enjoyed it.

I look forward to seeing it when it streams. I cannot sit in a theater that long; I will go insane.

It’s one of those movies which benefits from a watch on the big screen. I had just come off a 24-hour hospital shift and wanted to catch a less crowded Monday morning screening - it was definitely worth it. But I’m sure it will become available on streaming services soon.

Our tv is really big. The only time I go to the theater these days is to see something I think would be better in a group. Like Barbie.

Cool - so you’ll get to see it on a big screen at home!

We stayed at a pad in Berlin in '23 that had a projector and a big, white wall. It inspired us to invest in a projector and screen for our viewing pleasure, and generally wait for stuff to be streaming as well — especially movies that run longer than 2 hours.

It’s pretty great.

I hope you enjoy it. Leonardo Di Caprio is one of those actors who I don’t really care for as a person (when I was a teenager I was pretty crazy about him but that was like 30 years ago and I have a lot more sense now) but is really great in most of his acting roles.

Not all good actors are good people

When I was growing up in Silverlake long ago, the Vista was a famous porn theatre. I always do a double take when I see it mentioned.

Watched first episode of House of Guinness and it was pretty entertaining. Someone described it as a mash up of Succession, Dynasty and Peaky Blinders. Also watched new The Morning Show episode. We shall see, I think I’m a bit burned out on these people.
