Hi, everyone. Feeding 3 in the Boston burbs, as usual…
Sat: we usually go out for dinner, but the weekly must-see college football game was oddly timed and so I just cooked. I used up last week’s lazy ragu mess in a lasagna; it was okay, but I’m not sure that I wouldn’t have been better off just tossing the ragu and using doctored jarred sauce instead. Oh well. Everyone was fed.
Sun (tonight): crispy chicken cutlets (NYT recipe for sour cream and onion cutlets, basically, but less onion-y), glazed carrots, and either rolls from the freezer or homemade (experimental) pao de queijo, aka Brazilian cheese bread, depending on how much cooking energy I have.
I also repurpose because I don’t to waste food, and sometimes the first thing was beyond saving and I’ve just extended the problem by creating more .
As you said, everyone was fed
Did you find a GF panko that you like for breading? My aunt loves that NYT sour cream and onion crispy chicken. (TJs was stocking pao de queijo for a while — if there’s one near you,)
Yesterday was a new & relatively disappointing SE recipe for Southern “fried” chicken:
I should really just ignore any recipe claiming to be “fool-proof” from here on in
Today we’ll probably get takeout sushi, as my PIC just announced he’s in the mood for some. Might augment with a few steamed dumplings.
Tomorrow is my birthday, and we have tix for David Sedaris. Pre-show drinks and possible snacks at the gay bar beforehand, otherwise we’re pretty much SOL for a sit-down meal anywhere. The halal cart could be another option en route home.
Rest of the week will be posted in the October thread
The Brazilian population has grown quite a bit in southern Ontario, and pao de queijo are becoming more known outside the Brazilian and Portuguese communities.
I’ve been able to find frozen pao de queijo at some regular chain grocery stores, as well as at Brazilian coffee shops, Portuguese grocery stores and Portuguese fishmongers in both the Toronto Area and in London, Ontario. And fresh ones at Brazilian coffee shops, bakeries and restos. The fact they’re gluten -free makes them popular with non Brazilians in LdnOnt. I also pick up a gluten- free Brazilian-style banana bread for a gluten-free friend at the Brazilian Bakery in LdnOnt.
