A friend of mine baked me copycat Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits years ago, and I have never forgotten them!

I love Linwood Barclay!

Here’s a gift link from the WaPo for Greek Fasolada recipe.

I’m not familiar with Linwood Barclay but I love this book I’m reading and I would love to read more of his books when I’m done.

I’m finding it easier to go with regional themes while planning dinner lately.

Last week, I made Georgian (the nation) dishes one night and Alpine dishes another night.

Tonight, we will have Portuguese Piri Piri chicken thighs, roast fingerlings- maybe

these David Leite smashed potatoes, baked beans. I’m also looking at some Portuguese vegetable dishes now. I have way too many vegetables in the fridge right now. I should figure out something to make with the leeks that are taking up a lot of space.

Friday will be pickerel from Larry’s Catch, a new seafood company that delivers across Canada, that I have been really happy with. Roasted tomatoes with Greek herbs and spices. Probably Plaki-styke Pickerel with lemons and tomatoes. Greek beans with dill.

Saturday will be leftover chicken thighs. Not sure of the sides yet.

Sunday dinner will be fried pork chops with lemon and oregano.

When that happens to me I slice and sauté them and throw them in the freezer in a flat-pack ziploc. Takes up way less space and a spoonful or two of sautéed leeks makes almost anything better.

Hello friends I am still coughing in Ottawa. I called my family doctor last Monday and he gave me a prescription for antibiotics to start right away and to be taken for the week. I take the last dose today however I am still coughing so I will have to call him back on Monday for next steps. No interesting social activities on tap for this week since I just get up in the morning and go to work then go home, have dinner and go to bed. I’m still eating though so this is what I have on tap for this week:

Today: Take out lunch was fried chicken and mac 'n cheese. Dinner tonight will be a Greek salad.

Saturday: Roast veggies with some kinda grain on the side.

Sunday: Shrimp, kale and butternut squash salad.

Monday: Kale salad.

Tuesday: Spicy pork and rice noodle bowl.

Wednesday: I had intended on having enough roasted veggies from last Saturday to have for dinner tonight but I’m not so sure there will be any leftovers. I’m saving some of the veggies for lunches this week so dinner tonight will be tbd.

Thursday: Penne with artichoke hearts and roasted peppers.

Have a nice week everyone. I am living vicariously through your posts 🙂

Lulu was sick with a bad cough for 3 weeks this winter. Says everyone at school has it.

I’m so sorry you’re still dealing with this. Have you been tested for covid?

These germs have been making their way around my office too and everyone is popping off like flies. I guess I just have to wait it out.

No and I’m not even sure I have it. When my doctor called me last Monday to tell me he was faxing a prescription for antibiotics to my pharmacy he said it was the same one as last time. Wtf?!? He reminded methat I had the ssme cough a few years ago. I also recall going for x-rays and having to take another medication. That was maybe 15 or 20 years ago. I think I’m going to be in it for the long haul.

I’m sorry. Hoping the cough resolves soon :crossed_fingers:t3:

I still wear a mask when I’m in crowded places. I would wear one if I worked at a government office or university. I know I stand out when I wear a mask, and I feel the peer pressure to not wear one, which leads me to avoid some situations.

I have been able to avoid catching the flu or any colds.

I don’t wear a mask if the ventilation is good. (CO2 under 1000)

The ventilation is not good in a lot of institutions and office buildings. It’s terrible on buses. It isn’t great in many university dorms, classrooms or cafeterias. It’s really hard for college and university students to avoid bugs when they rip through campus.

One can test the ventilation of the space one is in with a CO2 monitor, which measures how much CO2 has been exhaled into the room.

Well-built modern buildings have air exchange, and open windows also help clear the air,. so one is less likely to be inhaling someone else’s respiratory bugs. Open kitchens in some restaurants have strong fans which help with the air exchange. I sat at the bar at Au Pied du Cochon in MTL in Oct, and the CO2 was a reasonable number because I was seated so close to the fans in the kitchen

After carrying a CO2 monitor around for 3 years, I know can guesstimate fairly accurately if a restaurant, office space or waiting room has good ventilation.

I have relaxed things quite a bit, in that I have returned to dining indoors at some restaurants that aren’t too crowded.

I realize it’s a you do you decision. It is how I have avoided catching bugs.

I also back away, or leave (and come back later), if someone is coughing and sneezing near me in a grocery store, bank, or line.
