Ummm…dudes. If you want to have crunchies, there will be no ā€œYOU SHALL NOT PASS!ā€ directives from either one of you!

Dog days of summer indeed.

(And yes, I know why it’s called the dog days. )

Update on the little Z man. Turns out he’s got 2 things going on simultaneously- the mysteriously acquired ringworm plus some sort of self-excoriating dermatitis, but the problem is that the treatment for the dermatitis gets in the way of treating the ringworm because it suppresses the immune system. The dermatologist vet wanted him bathed regularly with an anti-fungal shampoo. Problem is, I couldn’t do it w/o help and I got a lot of rejections, including from my GP vet, whom I’d been going to for more than 25 years. The practice was sold to a corporation; they didn’t even call me back the last time I called. SO … I now have a new GP vet - I am so happy I changed! I’m too loyal for my own good. The new vet was smart and thorough and unlike my old vets didn’t just say ā€œthis is problematicalā€ and then not do anything. They gave little Z the medicated bath (he was a good boy, too, no trouble at all, I was told) and then they brought him out wrapped in a huge towel to show me - I should have taken a photo! Anyway they dried him and now we have an appointment for the spa bath every Friday. He has been so perky since his visit - I really think he got some relief from the bath and the antibiotic shot - he has chewed and scratched himself bloody from the dermatitis - the dermatologist vet even installed claw caps on his hind feet to try to minimize the self-damage. Poor little guy only weighs 6 lbs and he’s 1 year old. Still a baby …He’s now attempting to escape from his quarantine quarters! . Next steps are rechecks with the dermatologist vet for him and his 14 year old ā€œsisterā€ (who has no lesions but is being treated b/c a PCR test showed ringworm DNA in her fur). I can’t say enough about how great it is to have both these vets. It will be interesting reintroducing the cats to each other. They know who’s on each side of the door, however.

Before Bath. The yellow isolation gown is me, Nurse Meekah, trying to figure out how we can have quality cuddle time while he’s contagious.

The 17+# black cat is getting some squeezed out tuna oil tonight from the tuna salad the dotter made for me. He has the most lux coat.
Just 2T. for a ā€˜cracker barrel’, ā€˜midnight’ or ā€˜hs’ protein snack for me. It is difficult to get 6 teeny meals in a day. Huckleberry Swedish pancake for breakfast tomorrow!

Keep on keeping on!!!

Thanks for the positive update! I’m so glad that you were able to switch vets and are getting favorable results. Hopefully once they get the dermatitis under control they can focus on the ringworm. At least there is finally some hope!
Please keep us updated on your baby.

My brother-in-law’s sister has a rescue cat called Gandalf, who is very old and very deaf.

Likes snoozing in his chair.

Watching over the kids.

My beautiful girl, Mika (yes, my nom de board) is 14 1/2. I took her to the allergy specialist today for a follow up b/c of little Ziggy’s ringworm. (she’s never exhibited any symptoms). He came back in the room, alarmed, and said to get her to her regular vet right away - she’s in bad shape and had lost 1 lb and had a nasal discharge (which my old vet never could do anything about btw). So I called my new vet from the parking lot and asked it they could start seeing her asap. Wednesday morning we’re going in. I know she’s past her sell-by date, and she’ s been in semi-poor health for a couple of years. I’m hoping for a peaceful resolution; not like the last few times when I was handed back a nearly dead cat with no clue that within 12 hours I’d be off to the pet ER for a euthanasia. I have no idea why my old vet kept doing that. Three times. Forget about me, it’s cruel for the kitty.

She just ate a jar of baby food…

So sorry to hear about your poor baby girl Mika. Hopefully the new vet can provide a happy outcome for you, and if not, be honest so you can provide the most humane solution.
Sending good vibes your way!
