Splooting in a sunbeam while he stalks the elusive mousey on a wire
Ummmā¦dudes. If you want to have crunchies, there will be no āYOU SHALL NOT PASS!ā directives from either one of you!
Dog days of summer indeed.
(And yes, I know why itās called the dog days. )
Update on the little Z man. Turns out heās got 2 things going on simultaneously- the mysteriously acquired ringworm plus some sort of self-excoriating dermatitis, but the problem is that the treatment for the dermatitis gets in the way of treating the ringworm because it suppresses the immune system. The dermatologist vet wanted him bathed regularly with an anti-fungal shampoo. Problem is, I couldnāt do it w/o help and I got a lot of rejections, including from my GP vet, whom Iād been going to for more than 25 years. The practice was sold to a corporation; they didnāt even call me back the last time I called. SO ⦠I now have a new GP vet - I am so happy I changed! Iām too loyal for my own good. The new vet was smart and thorough and unlike my old vets didnāt just say āthis is problematicalā and then not do anything. They gave little Z the medicated bath (he was a good boy, too, no trouble at all, I was told) and then they brought him out wrapped in a huge towel to show me - I should have taken a photo! Anyway they dried him and now we have an appointment for the spa bath every Friday. He has been so perky since his visit - I really think he got some relief from the bath and the antibiotic shot - he has chewed and scratched himself bloody from the dermatitis - the dermatologist vet even installed claw caps on his hind feet to try to minimize the self-damage. Poor little guy only weighs 6 lbs and heās 1 year old. Still a baby ā¦Heās now attempting to escape from his quarantine quarters! . Next steps are rechecks with the dermatologist vet for him and his 14 year old āsisterā (who has no lesions but is being treated b/c a PCR test showed ringworm DNA in her fur). I canāt say enough about how great it is to have both these vets. It will be interesting reintroducing the cats to each other. They know whoās on each side of the door, however.
Before Bath. The yellow isolation gown is me, Nurse Meekah, trying to figure out how we can have quality cuddle time while heās contagious.
The 17+# black cat is getting some squeezed out tuna oil tonight from the tuna salad the dotter made for me. He has the most lux coat.
Just 2T. for a ācracker barrelā, āmidnightā or āhsā protein snack for me. It is difficult to get 6 teeny meals in a day. Huckleberry Swedish pancake for breakfast tomorrow!
Keep on keeping on!!!
Thanks for the positive update! Iām so glad that you were able to switch vets and are getting favorable results. Hopefully once they get the dermatitis under control they can focus on the ringworm. At least there is finally some hope!
Please keep us updated on your baby.
Even his big sister misses him. She tries to go into the quarantine room ā¦
So happy to hear that things are moving in the right direction! Yay for good vets!!
Poor baby. Iāll continue to send good juju for your boy
Thank you. All of our critters are special, and always will be ā¦
SO glad you switched vets and found a caring one to help! Continued good thought for healing!
My brother-in-lawās sister has a rescue cat called Gandalf, who is very old and very deaf.
Likes snoozing in his chair.
Watching over the kids.
I should have done it earlier, but as I said, Iām often too loyal !
My beautiful girl, Mika (yes, my nom de board) is 14 1/2. I took her to the allergy specialist today for a follow up b/c of little Ziggyās ringworm. (sheās never exhibited any symptoms). He came back in the room, alarmed, and said to get her to her regular vet right away - sheās in bad shape and had lost 1 lb and had a nasal discharge (which my old vet never could do anything about btw). So I called my new vet from the parking lot and asked it they could start seeing her asap. Wednesday morning weāre going in. I know sheās past her sell-by date, and sheā s been in semi-poor health for a couple of years. Iām hoping for a peaceful resolution; not like the last few times when I was handed back a nearly dead cat with no clue that within 12 hours Iād be off to the pet ER for a euthanasia. I have no idea why my old vet kept doing that. Three times. Forget about me, itās cruel for the kitty.
She just ate a jar of baby foodā¦
So sorry to hear about your poor baby girl Mika. Hopefully the new vet can provide a happy outcome for you, and if not, be honest so you can provide the most humane solution.
Sending good vibes your way!
I hope the new vet has an easy resolution for little Mika! Eating the baby food is a good thing!
Iām so sorry about your girl, @Meekah, and hope your vet does the best he can for her.
Sending the best juju to you, Mika, and her baby brother
Baby food sounds promising. Sending best wishes to you and both cats!
