!

Decades ago, back when monitors were black and white and WordPerfect ran on COS, I was working on my dissertation. I kept my desk to go get something, when suddenly I heard the screaming beeps of a computer in DISTRESS. My very helpful cat had contorted herself in various positions on the keyboard, and had managed to— I swear — add 100 or so pages to the manuscript. I thanked her for her contribution, and set about very carefully removing her work. I’ve often wondered that if I’d left her work in, would the committee actually have read it and noted it, or, probably, ejected me.

Maybe they would have awarded the cat her own PHD??
