Trader Joe's YEA/NAY/MEH, 2023 Edition

I understand all those words individually, but not in the order you have them…

I love the Cherry Plums I found in SSF.

i know, i know!

as i said, “too much chocolate” is an oxymoron, but in this case it was a question of balance — the chocolate completely overwhelmed the taste of the florentines.

A soft YAY. Vegetable & Cheese Enchiladas.

My nearby TJs (South OC, CA) seem to get new things late or not at all. Today I was looking for the chicken enchiladas I’ve seen touted on TJ blogs lately but could only find the vegetable & cheese.

Overall I thought the flavor was good; sauce only mildly spicy. The one negative was that the tortillas really had very little substance to them. Hard to distinguish between them and the filling. I get that this is a pre-made item and that the sauce likely breaks down the texture of the tortillas. I just found that aspect a bit disappointing. Are the chicken ones any different?

How could that be good? Probably a textbook example of a priori knowledge.

This sounds like someone looked at those bits of watermelon that cling to a container and get dried out, and thought…hmm, if I collect enough of these, I could make something out of that.

I hope I didn’t miss a previous mention, but I tried TJ’s Mango & Jicama Slaw from their prepped food section and give it a YAY. Comes with a lime vinaigrette dressing. I’m a big fan of jicama slaw, and this was pretty nice especially for a warm weekend dinner. I had leftover King crabs leg meat and threw this on top of the slaw. Most of their salad dressings that come with their prepped food is always a tad too sweet for me, and this was no different. But there was enough of a lime flavor to still give the slaw a little acidic hit that it needed.

Extra crunchy?

I don’t understand this, in the same way that above posters did not understand “too much chocolate.” I would kill for some king crab every so often. I love the stuff but it is hard to get and/or pricey all the time.

YAY for the strawberry-rhubarb hand pies (all butter crust with delightful texture from the turbinado sprinkle).

YAY for the premium French vanilla ice cream. Great flavor and texture; not too eggy.

and the “1/2 gallon” is a full 64 ounces, not 48 like all the others.

I had to get the smaller one. It’s not safe in our freezer

Nice to see TJ’s French Vanilla here. It’s our one of our standard must buys at every visit. and…speaking of cheap skate, both way cheaper then big name “premium” ice cream and a FULL 1/2 gallon. Wife gets most of it though :sob: I’m lucky if I get 2 bowls.

It’s my favorite food. In this case leftover meant extra crab meat that I didn’t need for a recipe, and I already had a lot of food. Better to save it for the next day, than to stuff it in and not really get to enjoy it or savor it.

The Coffee Blast I.C. quarts are equally excellent.

made an appetizer of frozen falafel balls cooked in air fryer, roasted garlic hummus, tahini, harrisa and tzatziki with cucumber. the falafel balls are a yay, cooked in ten minutes and while i didnt try each of the other items individually, they all worked together to make a fast, delicious dish. will definitely be making a falafel sandwich or maybe a bowl with these ingredients and some Israeli salad.

Would you share the air fryer temp and time? I’ve tried the falafel before and found it dry and a bit hard.

Am I the only one who microwaves the falafel balls? Ready in 2 minutes!

I’ll take a look, but one reason I like Kind is that there aren’t any seeds, just nuts.

sure, 375f for 5 mins, flip, after another five mins try one and see what you think!

Finally tried the Portuguese custard tarts I bought months ago and stuffed in the freezer.

Prettay, prettay, prettay…prettay good!
