Trader Joe's 2024: YEA/NAY/MEH

I caught LLD in time this morning, and he brought home 3 bags. The first chip was odd for each of us, followed by a strong “oh yeah!”

I was a true weakling and bought some. It’s quite good and reminds me of what is often called “butter brickle” ice cream.

Also got the vegan gingerbread loaf. It’s apparently not a new item, but new to me. VERY gingery and IMHO not noticeably vegan in terms of texture and delicious. Seems very slightly expensive at $5.49, but since it’s a seasonal purchase, I’d say it’s worth it.

I may pick some up as a dessert for holiday gatherings, although we rarely serve dessert — most of our friends aren’t big on sweets, either.

And we’re generally pretty good at self-control. There are no pints destroyed in this household in one night. We each have a few spoons, that’s pretty much it

not at all relevant to TJs but it you are interested in Minneolas, Temple oranges are even better if you see them. I think they are my favorite of the orange/tangerine group. The only issue is that they are very seedy, which I imagine is why they are getting less and less common in the marketplace.

I also usually only require a few spoons of ice cream to satisfy my desire. If I want more, I just use a ramekin from the start as it automatically limits the size of my portions.

I bet they would be good with buffalo chicken dip!

Yeah to the Something Spritzy canned seasonal mocktail. It’s on the sweet side but the bitters bring it back into adult territory. Will buy again. Would be good with gin :joy:

We used to buy a lot of the TJ’s german pfeffernusse and also chocolate coated liqueur cherries, even their stollen - anybody spotting these so far this year?

I’ve been limiting my trips to grocery stores and unfortunately just got the tail end of the Harry & David Pears. I gave 3 to neighbors (6 per box) and ate one … 1/2 was mush. So sad. Will return. I vow to go earlier next year.

not sure where you live but comice pears (the ones Harry and David sell) should be available in produce and grocery stores by the piece - we can usually find them all through the winter in NY - and usually avoid the mush problem. They are fairly perishable so I guess I would not buy them in a box except through direct mail order (and thats too expensive!)

I saw these there yesterday. I worried about all the other holiday goodies I had already put in my cart and decided against buying them. But they did sound/look good!

I bought them there the last 2 years and they were perfect but these, alas, were getting old.

I dont know if I would be attracted by the crisps - the yeast bread is what appeas to me.

Many of those things are in stores now (and many more, the holiday bonanza is out).

I’m done with H&D. They were stellar in the past.
