Good to know, I’ll check that out.

YAY for the fire-roasted red peppers. Nice n smoky & not too sweet. Made a lovely addition to my melitsanosalata.

Has anyone tried the new Crete olive oil?

No, but ouch on that price. I miss the kalamata oil dearly. It was my favorite supermarket olive oil :sob:

I miss the California extra virgin that was in the same tall, round bottle as the organic Spanish olive oil. It was my favorite all-purpose olive oil. Sniff.

I saw that, but picked up the new Australian organic one because it’s in a smaller bottle, so if I don’t love it it’s less of an issue.

It was between that and the Sicilian, but that one has been around for a while so I’ll try it when I’m done with this.

Will circle back once I’ve used it.

They are clearly casting a wider net given the supply issues.

I tried the Australian one, was ok.
If Costco has the Italian ones in glass bottles, that’s what I buy but SSF often just has plastic. No go for me.

I really like WF 365 Italian but they were out last time. I like the Potrero Hill store, last time I was shocked at how empty all the shelves were. Asked a manager; he said they don’t have enough staff right now to stock the shelves.

I don’t buy oil at Costco because the bottles are too large and aren’t much cheaper than what TJs carries in smaller containers.

But the Kirkland brand in the green plastic bottles is pretty good. I understand the plastic issue though.

Yay - Australian olive oil for people who dont like olive oil. Good for guests and for baking olive oil cake eaten the same day (when you dont have an extra day for the flavors to mellow).

Does that mean it’s mild or strong in flavor?

Any intel / opinions on these two? I’ve not seen any comments about them here, but they may be fairly new — the stracciatella must be, for sure.

No doubt the stracciatella is going to be delish :yum:, but has anyone tried the red pepper almond pesto sauce? I picked both of them up today, and I sense a pasta sauce combining both in my future

Not here they weren’t, at least the crispy jalapeño pieces. In fact, there was an entire endcap with them at our TJ’s. I asked to try them at the register, and after an initial MEH reaction the heat kicked in, and I immediately upgraded to YAY.

The only question is how to eat them. I don’t want those on my salad OR vegetables as per their suggestion on the bag… or I could follow their other suggestion to “enjoy them on their own right out of the bag,” but I really, really shouldn’t

Well that’s interesting, but I imagine there is some kind of QC that requires measurement of how many oz of tofu, noodles, etc per bag, otherwise the nutrition table would be way off.

The package I ate had maybe twice that tofu (I know because I don’t like tofu so I ate it first) plus a bunch of tofu skin (which I initially thought were noodles, but i don’t mind as much as chunks of tofu so I didn’t pick all of them out at one go).

As Caitlin said, the serving size is often to justify certain nutrition facts. In this case, I will say it’s the sodium, because there’s 25% in 1 serving meaning 50% in a package. I know from making this myself that it’s a sodium bomb whether I make it or eat it out, so it doesn’t bother me, I just eat it very rarely.

I just checked the pad thai out of curiosity, and the sodium is similar (40%) but the fat is half, which is odd to me because I attributed most of it to the fried tofu, but the protein is about the same in both.

Anyway, they’re not health foods either of them (nor the rest of the frozen convenience foods section), so I buy them only occasionally for a treat.

Revising my cautious reaction to a resounding YEA for the Lemon Pesto.

Removing it from the pesto / pasta box and applying it as an intense, lemony relish has made it work its way into all kinds of things.

Chief use of late: salad dressing, thinned with light-tasting vinegar of choice and olive oil.

Then I mixed it into full fat greek yogurt (in lieu of creme fraiche) and served it with homemade gravlax. The combination was fabulous, but when the gravlax was gone, people used it as a straight dip for crackers and chips and demanded the “recipe” (oops, outed  ).

So, YEA!!!

Boo (ok, Nay) to supply issues. Vegetable and salad shelves were practically empty my last 2 visits .

There are new Chocolate covered French Cookies … the chocolate covering is tasty but the cookies aren’t half as good as the rarely available French Chocolate Wafer cookies.

Thanks for this, I almost bought them on my last trip but felt they were pricey
for how light the package was. I do like those French Chocolate Wafers though.

They are good, just not, in my opinion, crave able. Everyone I know really loves the French Wafer cookies that are so hard to get.

I bought the pesto about a year ago but have yet to open it.

Well, that at least says something about its shelf life
