Trader Joe's 2024: YEA/NAY/MEH

What’s the green - spinach?

They are really, really cute.

But they were so BLAND! I don’t think there was spinach. Said 3 servings, I think it’s closer to 2.

I was sure I had seen a recipe for lemon pesto so I checked my EYB books, and VOILA!
Pasta with toasted almond and lemon pesto - Mina Stone
Mint and lemon pesto with penne frigate - Ursula Ferrigno
Green beans with arugula and lemon pesto - Dana Cowin
Fusilli with feta and lemon caper pesto - Best American Recipes 2005-2006
Grilled turkey cutlets with sage-lemon pesto - Bobby Flay

The Mina Stone recipe is the one I was remembering. Check you EYB, your may have some surprises.

Maybe there was spinach inside; I couldn’t taste anything and the package has been discarded.

I haven’t tried them yet.

This sounds like a good one in your list - the pepperyness would mix nicely with the tart lemon.

I’m interested to know what you think. It’s a fast, easy meal, I’ll admit.

Have you tried the lemon-ricotta ones? So flavorful. I always add just butter and Parmesan.

It pained me to do it, but I just threw out an unopened jar of TJ whole grain mustard, date: 2013.

I’m renewing my vow to only buy when NEEDED.

Just a heads up that when I batched some fresh basil pesto leaving out fresh garlic but adding a spoonful of this jarred lemon pesto the combo tossed thru their new, boxed lemon pasta, the combo was very tasty.

My TJ in SSF just got in the Habañero - Lime tortillas, just slightly spicy hot.
YAY

I made a quesadilla with thin slices of whole milk mozzarella, pieces of fresh basil, TJ Pico de Gallo, a little refried bean dip (Fritos can, convenient).

Tasty and Quick!

  • Homemade tortillas are a big yay for us but have to finish the tortilla before it gets cold (and gummy)
  • Mediterranean hummus is a meh, a little light, didn’t hold up to the other ingredients we had on our falafel (also a yay)
  • first time we had their dolmas it was a yay, this time a meh, the leaves themselves didn’t have the right consistency
  • kimbap back in stock and still a yay!

What does this mean?

I’ve been using them for quesadillas and other stuff (tortilla pizza, etc), but I griddle them first on both sides.

YEA: The Italian crackers with olives are indeed delicious, and do have some structural integrity issues. Just make sure your cambozola is at room temperature so it spreads without breaking the cracker.

I recently did a partial purge of condiments in our fridge and found some that were old enough to vote.

I’m vowing not to buy a big bottle of ketchup again. Does anyone know where I can get Heinz in a glass bottle?

I griddled them on both sides but for various reasons, mostly having to do with too much talking, they lost their warmth and by the time I got to the last quarter of the sandwich, the consistency of the tortilla became gummy.

I took care to eat the 2nd sandwich more quickly and it was great.

You will pay dearly for one glass bottle of Heinz ketchup ($16.) but ask a friendly diner owner and he might part with one for less. Wholesalers get the lions share.

They have a case of the little individual bottles but appear to be out of stock on what you are looking for. It does look like you can buy a solo bottle, should they ever get any more.
