Trader Joe’s Product Reviews – YEA/NAY/MEH – 2025 Edition

Yes – i mentioned them upthread.

Don’t think of them as cheung fun, and then they’re a good addition to the dim sum offerings.

Thanks! I have to check it out.
Also, thanks for recommending the crunchy chili onion sprinkle. That is very good also. I keep an extra container in my wine bag, when I dine out, to sprinkle on French fries :slightly_smiling_face:

What else is in that bag? Do you have any of those mini Tabascos?

I also keep McCormick Sriracha seasoning in my wine bag to sprinkle on fries, and fried calamari, among other things, that need spicing up :slightly_smiling_face:

i found the “hot” part of TJs Hot & Sweet Jalapeños to be on point! my palette lends towards spicy & hot, but i found more than a few of the jalapeño pieces at a time became uncomfortable to the mouth. i couldn’t imagine getting close to finishing a full jar, even with the help of a partner.

In a pinch, I like the TJs jalapenos but it’s pretty easy/fun to make as it allows one to customize the heat level:

And here’s a nyt recipe we modified to use candied jalapenos, imo the result is incredible:

  • 8 ounces extra-sharp cheddar cheese, grated with a food processor or hand grater (not pre-grated)
  • ¼ cup softened cream cheese (2 ounces), pulled into several pieces
  • Scant 1/2 cup candied jalapenos with a couple of tablespoons of the brine
  • 3 tablespoons Duke’s, Hellmann’s or other high-quality store-bought mayonnaise
  • ½ teaspoon dried red chile flakes
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

In a large mixing bowl, place the cheddar cheese in an even layer. Scatter the cream cheese, candied jalapenos and brine, mayonnaise and chile flakes over the cheddar cheese. Using a spatula, mix the pimento cheese until it is smooth and spreadable, about 1 1/2 minutes.

Transfer the pimento cheese to a plastic container or bowl, cover tightly, and store in the refrigerator. Pimento cheese keeps in the refrigerator for 1 week.

TJ’s Chile Lime seasoning shaker might be a good addition – less salty than Tajin, and wakes up anything dull

I guess I have a high tolerance for heat :slightly_smiling_face: The sweet part helps to override the hot part.

I love the Thai, lime, and chili cashews.

I love a small handful, but more and they start tasting vaguely artificial.

And we save the pickling juices long after pickled items are gone to use in salad dressings, brines, marinades.

My plan is to go tomorrow so I will have to pay attention. Of course I will get flowers for myself. haha

Have fun!!! I bet it will be a mad house!

Wow, I’ve been clearly sleeping on the jalapeno goodness. I’m going to have to pick some up next week.

I dropped by today and they were giving out samples of some sort of lemon cookie. I got one and walked away, and then forced LLD to go back for another sample for me. So good! Not sure whether I should be happy or not that I held back from buying any. They were called something like Lemon Flower cookies.

A surprisingly strong YAY for the frozen margherita pizza.

I find most frozen pizza to be… fine. Some are a touch better than others, but if I’m reaching for one it’s cuz I want hot food with no effort. I’ll usually go for Tombstone or Red Baron, which are objectively bad, but hit the same nostalgia taste buttons as Kraft Mac n Cheese or Spaghetti-O’s (cold straight from the can) or White Castle or anything like that. The TJ “Cheese pizza” in the green package is down there with Kirkland or other store brand stuff.

But this one: a light, very crispy cornice, a layer of very tomato-y flavored sauce (more of a cooked flavor than a strictly Neopolitan would be, but VERY tasty). Some blobs of lower moisture mozz (can’t really do the fresh stuff in froz form). While the basil has gone dark, it still had plenty of herby, slightly fennel notes.

If there was any flaw, the center got a bit floppy after sitting, but erring toward the longer side of the suggested 9-12 min cook time should fix that.

8/10 - this will go on the ‘good to have one in the freezer’ list.

was hoping to try this based on your recommendation, but it was going to be an hour before it was unloaded from the truck. next time.

also not available: the coconut pancakes i’ve been wanting to try. apparently a seasonal item, but no one knew what season. so not sure if/when they’ll be back.

At least that’s an honest answer. At my TJ’s, when asking whether an item has been discontinued, or if it will return, I usually get an authoritative-sounding answer that often turns out to be wrong. Like when I asked about the Dark Russet potato chips about a month ago, which I’d previously been purchasing regularly, and was told they’d been discontinued. Then they reappeared last week. When I commented on this, the checker said, “oh, they’re seasonal”.

I picked up 2 boxes of these on Friday. One went straight into the freezer.
