Trader Joe’s Product Reviews – YEA/NAY/MEH – 2025 Edition

YEA for the Tangerine Cream bars – I grew up with a version of these, and have been resisting them ever since they appeared, but a 100F day did me in. They are not as orange-y as I’d like, but they are nice. There’s a mango version too.

Yay and nay to the garlic butter potato chips. Love the flavor and texture but the garlic is so strong lit is the gift that keeps on giving and not in a good way

Also confirmed Mr Autumm is not as sensitive of the palate as he was like hmm. These are good. What flavor is this?

I will look for them, I bet they’d be great straight from the freezer too.

Seems pretty typical of Neapolitan pies anyway

Is this the flavor that replaced the bleu cheese chips? The bag looks similar. I really liked those, but they didn’t last long. Bleu cheese isn’t a universal favorite, but garlic and butter might be. I think I’ve had these but it was in the wake of the bleu cheese I loved, so they didn’t impress. Also the bag is small and not a great value IMHO.

YAY for the simple fact the MANGO SHAVE CREAM is BACK, BAYBEE!

My baby face loves this stuff. One of TJ’s all-time best products without a doubt.

Measured YEA for the mixed box of Fior di latte and pistachio gelatos. Its not as rich than gelato shop gelato, but a nice light texture and good flavor. I have a hard time finding fior di latte anywhere on its own, so that’s a definite plus.

I’ll give high marks to Trader Joe’s chocolate chunk cookie dough. They’re in a flat, blue refrigerated bag of a dozen discs. Didn’t find time to make my own this weekend and a friend suggested these. Not necessary to bake entire package at once. Save a couple for when you get that chocolate chip cookie urge. I thought they were pretty darn good in a pinch, or not.

They had disappeared for a while

They had frozen sliced shiitake mushrooms for a while, which I finally used, and are a big YEA. Will check if they are still around.

I love those. I’ve used them in soups, pastas, stews.

The vegetarian canned chili, which IIRC has meaty crumbles akin to Impossible Meat, has a beefier meat flavor than national brand beef chili like Hormel.

The bakery shelves’ foccacia with cheese and caramelized onion is yummy. Four pull-apart pieces in a flat plastic wrapper.

Canned Greek eggplant with garlic and tomato (purple can shaped like a large tuna can). I use it as a shakshuka shortcut.

Turquoise blue, soft packet of tikka masala sauce is on a par with the restaurant version. Mild level of chile heat.

Yea and nay (to the cooking instructions) for TJ"s meatball calzone. Nicely (strongly) seasoned meatballs with a good sauce. But needed far more than the 20 minutes they recommend. The dough needed to brown more than the 20+ minutes I gave it. Also I had an open jar of mutti marinara sauce and spooned more into the cavity when it was sliced. Improved it but was not necessary.

In my experience, most TJ products have required more than the time stated.

It’s the simple things, right? My husband will be thrilled to hear that his fave is back.

YAY! for the Trader Joe’s French Gallettes Butter Cookies, which I got to serve with ice cream for dinner guests. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but they were very good!! I also like that they come in 3 4-packs to stay crispy.

I think they are perfect, better than anything I can make. I’ve been giving boxes of them to special friends.

I find that the Spanokopita (the round one that is not the swirl) takes at least 5 minutes longer even on convect.
