Well, Padma was always defined as the host, and also served as a judge. I’d say the host has specific duties, in addition to PYKAG, like generally being the one to introduce challenges and guest judges, get saddled with product-placement spiel, etc., that Tom or Gail might step into occasionally, but not regularly.
Yes! That’s it !
I often have this niggling memory of Katie Lee, and then Padma, being identified as a “host”, and then over time, Padma did more and more “judge” things. I couldn’t find anything to support that memory, but I think of it from time to time.
Episode was too long.
We don’t need 75 minutes
I love the extended version! You get to see more of the drama and commentary from judges or fellow contestants. I always make sure to watch the first airing or at least DVR it, because it often gets trimmed down in re-airings to the 1 hour format.
Yes we do. 90 minutes would be better. I find the presentation and tasting too rushed. In reality it may not be, but I have trouble keeping up with who did what and what it tasted like.
When I used to do the writeups for CH, they’d have a 75 minute episode once or twice a season. I do remember that many viewers preferred 75-90 minutes, as it gave us all more insight into the “whys” of judges’ choices, as well as more video of how the chefs created their dishes. Yeah…sometimes there was more drama viewed as well, but they did seem to lean towards letting the viewer see more of the creation and judging of dishes.
This was my first time watchingTC, and the tasting parts seemed rushed to me. Maybe it will be better when there are fewer contestants left.
Yes, the early episodes are always a bit confusing for me too, despite being a ‘veteran watcher’. Too many new faces and too much feedback that gets trimmed down to a few words or maybe a sentence that gets aired. It gets a lot better when you’re down to 10 or less contestants.
Yeah, I found myself doing some other things on my iPad as I watched the first episode. It’s doesn’t really get interesting (for me) until they whittle down the numbers and we have more invested in each chef. Kristen did a great job! Always liked her. Low key but knowledge about food and the making of it…
Another twist.
I was just going to post that! Great minds, and all that!
Here’s a recap of last night from Vulture of New York mag. Spoilers, obvs.
I’m still enjoying it, and it’s not taking much for Kristen to “fit in” for me. She’s certainly not afraid to share her opinion with the (other)! judges!
I think Kristen is a natural at this. She’s killing it!
I haven’t seen any explanation of why David in Ep 1 didn’t get to go to Last Chance Kitchen. I found him annoying, but I’m sure that’s not the reason.
I was kinda relieved, I’ll admit. Although, given how he did in the cook-off in the first episode, I’m not sure he has the headspace for it, anyway.
Maybe because there was no one there yet???
But don’t they usually begin once at least two are eliminated? I expected to see the two eliminated plus the new guy.
When he was eliminated there was only one. Now there are two.
Right, but he was not in LCK once there were two. I don’t see it, but elsewhere online someone said that on Instagram, David Murphy said, “I wasn’t allowed to participate, beyond that I can’t say anything else…NDAs” So something went on behind the scenes there.
Interesting…
