Top Chef Season 20

I’m surprised, and not disappointed.

First of the recaps!

Yeah, the booted one had a number of technical mistakes throughout the competition, so not entirely surprising for me, but I actually really enjoyed the cheftestant’s occasionally goofy jokes. Will miss that, but I guess it’s time for the contest to get hardcore serious!

I was happy Sara came back from LCK. But, the show has no suspense. Buddha is winning.

True. I was actually more surprised to see one of those who remained! Not surprised about Buddha or Ali of course, and Sara feels good too. It would be pretty wild if Buddha didn’t win.

From at least half way, it’s felt like the Buddha show. There was actually more in question last season, even though Buddha’s technical superiority was apparent. I like him enough, and I like Sara, but I’d’ve preferred not to end up with not one, but two American finalists. (Shallowly speaking, Ali is welcome to come sit by me.)

This week’s challenges, while fun, felt so much like “Here’s two challenges made for Buddha” there was little suspense save for over who was going to go home. And really, almost anyone going home was going to feel unfair, unless it was the other person who specialised in agar and trickery.

At this point, it makes me wish this had stopped being a competition and more “let’s see how chefs from around the world interpret these challenges”.

I’d love to see it, but unless he screws up in a major way, the title s his to lose. And it’s boring.

If you want a drinking game while you watch this season, take a drink every time Gabri burns some food.

Oh…

This one is a Salon recap from last week’s episode, but it says what some of us are saying.

I hear you. All the ladies mourn with you today…

Surely not just the ladies. I understand “you are only as good as your last meal”, but it’s been called a shocker, and not just by ladies.

Unsure if this belongs here or a separate thread, but:

Funny I just came here to link the same story. I guess it does belong here?

If you look at the competition, he hasn’t had as many ups and downs as at least one of the contestants in the finale. But I know the chef has a lot of female fans…

She’s definitely built up a brand that extends beyond Top Chef, so not surprised in that regards. I suggest of they will replace her with new blood, give Gail the job of host (assuming she has the time and desire to do it), or just do away with a formal host.

I agree he has not had as many ups and downs as one of the final three, but I did not know about the female fans. How do you know that?

Wait. What???

:astonished:

I am still researching when she went from host to judge.

Just word of mouth from fellow fans of the show. I’m not taking like a formal poll or a fan club. Just tv talk about the show.
