Thrifting for kitchen tools

LoL - was it a Halloween Potluck?

When I was a lab tech I’d always fill up a bunch of (previously sterile) urine catch containers with apple juice, and swig from one from time to time, whilst dressed up a Count Dracula.

I picked up a lithographed tin at a flea market. Son saw it and said, ā€œAre you out of your mind? Do you have any idea what might have been in there? How lethal a drop might have been?ā€ The can was inscribed, ā€œSnake Venimā€.

Nope. Just a regular potluck, and she was utterly unwitting and oblivious. I don’t think anyone told her.

White plastic.

Did anyone eat the salad?

The bold look of Kohler. The father of Kohler just died Saturday. Had a vision.

Many did not.

This same oblivious person had her wedding and reception at an odd private ā€œresortā€ venue. Over the course of the evening, guests started discovering that the indoor pool building had 20 or so very small, locked rooms off an upstairs balcony.
There were no normal accomodations.

Someone ran the address, and it turns out the resort was a swingers’ club. The happy couple never found out, AFAIK.

Well, consider who taught them…

I scored this large cake carrier at Goodwill this morning for $5. I’ll use it for the next party we are invited to. I’ll make some type of double layer cake. I have no idea how old it is, but it has a cool vintage kind of look.

So much cooler than the new, plastic ones!

That is very cool! Does the top lock onto the bottom so you can carry it by the handle?

Yes… It has two locks and they both work and are tight (positive lock). I’m looking forward to carrying in by the handle, so I can carry beer (12 pack or so) with my other hand. :beers:

Thanks… I grabbed it as soon as I saw it!!

I love vintage cake carriers and admit to owning… several  They are extremely common at all manner of vintage situations; I have to talk myself out of buying another one every time I go thrifting/vintaging, which is… often!

Nothing says ā€œParty Animalā€ quite like a cake and a half rack.

My girlfriend usually carries the wine that she drinks with the hostess. The husband LOVES sweets (similar to my girlfriend), so I know that my (new to me) cake carrier will get a workout.
Give me a beer and hamburger (with mayo) and I’m a ā€œhappy camperā€. :hamburger:

I belong to a sous vide group, and someone just bought one of these at a thrift shop…so yes, those that do SV would recognize it.

What a beautiful find! I will be on the lookout for something similar.

Small score at Goodwill, yesterday. I’ve been wanting two 8" cake pans with the spinning knife things in the bottom. $1/each - YEA!!

Good companions for the cake carrier!

I mentioned these in a 1-off thread. I got these teak bowls at the Humane Society for $6.40.

And I gave the cutting board mentioned above the same coffee stain treatment I did on my daughter’s board, and it turned out pretty nice. I oiled it several times afterwards and once that had set in washed it and only a bit of the coffee came out the first time. Thereafter with several more washings none seems to be leaching out.

@alarash - I gotta say, I started off in your thread commenting that I didn’t much visit thrift stores. Now just 3 months later it’s turned into a hobby and I’m going at least 1-2 times per week.
