Just made rice in this microwave rice cooker. I think the last time I did this was in college. Amazingly, I vaguely remember the cooking time is 12 minute microwave on high power, and it worked.
I had one of those when I worked. Iâd put the rice & water in, set the microwave, then get ready for work. Iâd throw in some vegetables and some Sweet & Sour sauce and that would be my lunch.
I could never bring myself to eat lunch out everyday, so I âbrown baggedâ it⊠Iâd re-heat it at Noon and was quite content.
Howâs the texture?
Not bad. It was on the drier and firmer side, but that is also because I intentionally add less water last night (I usually prefer firmer texture). Your question actually got me thinking about something. I have been using a donabe for rice cooking.
One character of stovetop rice cookers is when I put less water and/or high long heat, then the rice will burn at the bottom and stick. It can range from rice slightly crisp up (which many people like) to badly burned and stick hard to the bottom â very difficult to clean up.
The microwave rice cooker does not have this characteristic.

Thanks for posting the article. It seems plastics for food storage are best avoided entirely. Iâve got 2 sets of glass storage containers but both sets have plastic or silicone-plastic lids. Still, the lids donât get much or any food contact.
Wonder what the chances are of finding condiments and the myriad other stuff we buy, all in glass containers? I do see some types of juices in glass, but donât think I ever see milk in anything other than plastic jugs or plastics-coated paperboard box type containers.
I live in an area with active dairies and some do offer milk in glass. I get it sometimes.

I have recently made pita and tortilla chips by cutting up the tortilla and pita, lightly coat with oil and sprinkle spices and pop in the microwave until just browned. Typically zatar for the pita and cumin and ground chile powder on the tortillas
About how long?
Our local glass recycler earlier this year called it quits. âToo expensive to processâ. Great. So this weekend I emptied into my trash can the amount of about 4 trash bags of glass I canât use around the house. The metal lids are all recyclable, tho. Canât recycle plastic a nymore, just the clear milk, water and vinegar jugs (no lids) and twist top clear plastic (no lids) containers. Tthere are limits on corrogated cardboard (thanks to the age of Amazon delivery) but paperboard, junk mail, magazines and newspapers are all okay. I bought glass instead of plastic. Cardboard instead of plastic wrap. Cardboard boxed instead of plastic bottled detergent. Now Iâm screwed.
