i’m obviously very late to this party, but yes, the greek spot has great food. if you’ve never tried the pastitchio give it a go. i never bother making it at home any more - it’s a LOT of work, and theirs is way better than mine anyway. pass on the spinach pie though, and there’s no nice way to say this but, i hate it. i wish they’d stick with the thin phyllo sheet layering technique and give up on the heavier crust. yuck.
Enjoyed the delicious lentil soup but … once I looked at my takeout receipt realized I was served and charged incorrectly for what I thought was a cold beet and feta appetizer for $5.95 but rec’d a beet salad at the falafel salad $12.95 price minus any falafel but served a large topping of canned sliced beets over feta and greek salad mixed greens. They were def not fresh roasted beets which was equally disappointing.
I didn’t call or return for $7.00 once home but next time I will check closely. First bad exp there.
Takeout tonight from The Greek Spot. I had pork souvlaki with spinach rice, mom had chicken souvlaki with Greek fries, and Justin got a falafel wrap. We shared the spicy feta dip and extra pita bread. All amazing, as usual!
We actually picked it up tonight rather than DoorDash after last week’s debacle (mentioned in another thread). No complaints tonight.
Drool…
All of it is making me drool too! But that spicy feta dip is fantastic.
I have been there several times but have always done wraps, apps, and their many dips. This was the first platter I have gotten. Incredible amount of food. Ashamed to say I finished both skewers but was STUFFED. Originally, I thought the pita should have been served on the side, but man, it really soaks in the flavor of everything above. I just snacked on my mom’s leftover pita while cooking and it was amazing…especially in more spicy feta. We could not finish it!
I don’t know which one of you people started the rumor of different size portions per each location. (Don’t scroll up it was me!!) I’m very happy to report that my ultimate laziness left me not wanting to drive to Ocean, thus Red Bank got my order tonight. I believe the prices are the same and the chicken souvlaki platter has 3 skewers of meat just like Ocean.
Beef gyro and and order of Moussaka to round out a delicious meal!! (sorry no pics)
Never been to the Ocean location, but I’ve never felt cheated on portion size at Red Bank. Gyro platter is enough for 3 meals (for a normal person…I only get two out of it).
Bumping this back up, as I finally returned to The Greek Spot (the Restaurant) last weekend before a show at the Basie. First of all, if you don’t make a reservation on a Fri/Sat night, you’re going to wait. In a huge crowd. We had an early res but had to swim upstream to get out of the building (really) because their waiting area was PACKED when we left.
I hadn’t been there since the pandemic started, but can honestly say that everything (and it felt like we ate EVERYTHING) was delicious as always! We went mezze style and WAY over-ordered (it would have been helpful if the waiter had at least warned us that there’s 1+ cups of each of the 3 spreads -ridiculous volume, to be honest); we had those, the gigantes (AMAZING), octopus, shrimp, dolmades, and falafel (surprising good even though they’re obviously pre-formed and likely purchased). There was probably something else I forgot, but suffice it to say that we barely had room for the plates and were thankful for the brief walk over to the theater.
We go to the Greek Spot a lot and just like you said absolutely must have a reservation. It’s wild these days. My only ‘pet peeve’ is they are too fast. Like, I don’t even drink a half a glass of wine and the food is there! I love the Vegan Odyssey. It’s so damn good and enormous. Best when someone wants to split it because the appetizer portion is still tremendous.
If it is too crowded, you can leave out the front (back?) that go through the to-go area and on the street.
I never thought about leaving out the ‘front’ - DEFINITELY a wise move that I’ll use next time! That ‘waiting area’ was truly ridiculous, and it didn’t help that the people waiting wouldn’t budge. Like I was going to somehow bump their chance of getting in to the place…?
Gotta throw those elbows!
Great news for those of us in Western Monmouth County. Greek Spot to open in the strip mall on Rt. 33 West just up from Peking Pavilion.
Is that bagel store any good in that plaza? Used to pass it daily on my way to work and wonder
Thanks for this alert, @jsfein! The only Greek restaurant near us is Anemos, in Manalapan. The food there is o.k., but we’ve been to The Greek Spot in Red Bank, and their food is far better. Looking forward to adding them to our take-out list when they open.
This is great news. Only five minutes from my house.
Tommy’s Bagel. Not a bagel expert, but i like it. Cash only. No grill so only cold cut and spreads.
I saw that too… replaced the short lived Colombia Cafe which unfortunately succumbed to the pandemic. It’s great news since i am nearby also.
Tommy’s has recently added a grill.
And Manalapan is open
