Sure glad I didn’t eat that cake @Harters - at least I’m forewarned if visiting Amsterdam!

Some certainly do. I’m not likely to revisit Red Dawn or Cocktail.

Red Dawn is forgettable, Cocktail was Tom Cruise.,
Next of Kin was kick a$$.

Hah! You’re right. I was thinking of Road House. Which I see you put in the “like” column. I am a forever fan of Dirty Dancing and Ghost, but (according to me), Swayze was in plenty of
not good movies.

I keep forgetting about Ghost & Dirty Dancing. Two more of my favorite movies too. Touché

Red Dawn has some elements of social commentary that are very relevant today. Besides, Jennifer Gray is really cute.

is it the Amalfi coast? Never mind. Just saw the other post!!

I just found a strand of pasta in my clothes when I took them out of the washer. No I didn’t eat it, even though it’s the good stuff from Italy.

The UK government has just announced a range of measures designed to kickstart the economy. Two of them are particularly applicable to this forum.

For a period of six months, from next week. Value Added Tax (similar to an American sales tax) will be reduced on restaurant food from 20% to 5%. Restaurants only reopened in England last weekend and are still not open in other parts of the country. Do I expect to see menu prices actually reduced or restaurants keep prices the same so helping their profits considerably. The latter of course. But that will not be a bad thing in itself.

Also, for August only, the government will support discount vouchers, to a value of ÂŁ10, to be spent in restaurants. Details are currently sketchy but this could be actually a useful kickstart. Hopefully, all restaurants will be able to participate in this and be quickly and easily able to redeem vouchers and that it isnt just designed for the chains. The government will publish further details in a few days.

This is a healthy reduction in the VAT! Hopefully it’s a good kickstart.

Details of the UK government’s August discount scheme. Not a voucher, simply a discount a restaurant can offer customers and reclaim from the government. Looks like it could be very helpful and, hopefully, it will be a quick and straightforward process for businesses to reclaim the discount given.

That looks very sensible. Having the restaurants do the paperwork makes life easier for customers and reduces the total number of transactions. Well done.

Yes, it’s a remarkable turn of events. The most right wing government we’ve had in 40 years, yet it’s become the most interventionist since 1945.

Is it correct that the scheme applies only Monday through Wednesday ?

Yep.

The declared intent is to encourage business on the quieter days of the week. A cynic (not me, guv, perish the thought) might think that the government knows full well that many restaurants close on Mondays, so take up is going to be less than if it had been Tuesday - Thursday.

Thank you. One could also venture that restaurants open on Mondays could use more of a boost than those operating on Thursdays.

Further proof DD2 was raised correctly; pictured below is her Friday coffee mug. I’m tellin ya, I alone am responsible for the great outcome. Sadly DD1, was a failed experiment as far as RS goes. Even offered to buy her a concert ticket last August. DD2 has been with us X2 now. Didn’t know until today this was the Friday mug. I gave it to her.
