YES! Also, it just reminded me of another favorite of the era, which my bff & I loved. Flex shampoo, remember that by any chance? Then there was some balsam stuff too, can’t remember the name right now. Dr Bruner’s liquid peppermint soap may take you back as well. I’ve never stopped using that, always have some on hand, tho I don’t use it exclusively, @retrospek.
You’re right - That’s why they were always passing through. Poor Ain’t Bea. Interestingly enough read this:
The episode led to The Andy Griffith Show , and Bavier was cast in the role of Aunt Bee. Bavier had a love-hate relationship with her famous role during the run of the show. As a New York City actress, she felt her dramatic talents were being overlooked, yet after playing Bee for eight seasons, she was the only original cast member to remain with the series in the spin-off, Mayberry R.F.D. , for two additional seasons.[4]
Bavier was easily offended on the set of The Andy Griffith Show and the production staff took a cautious approach when communicating with her. Series star Andy Griffith once admitted the two sometimes clashed during the series’ run.[5][6] On an appearance on Larry King Live (November 27, 2003), Griffith said Bavier phoned him four months before she died and apologized for being “difficult” during the series’ run. Bavier confessed in an interview with Bill Ballard for Carolina Camera that “it is very difficult for an actress … to create a role and to be so identified that you as a person no longer exist and all the recognition you get is for a part that is created on the screen.”[7]
But look at Ron Howard and what he made of himself. Quite the success story. And yes I watch The Andy Griffith show but I can do without Barney Fife and Gomer Pyle.
Yes, and I loved the smell of Prell. Just very clean.
Amen to that. Could not stand those two!!
Fantastic location (although I see they are not distancing the tables). Where is it, please?
Italy, and it was always this way so this was taken a while ago.
@Lambchop - I was a big fan of patchouli oil in high school (graduated '69 in the SFBA). If you google patchouli soap, there’s a lot out there. Maybe you can find a replacement…
Thanks @TheLibrarian; actually have a friend that’s an avid and productive soap maker, and gifts me some a couple times a year. Think I’ll just send her a couple of the size bottles pictured, so she’ll (hint hint) start using it in her creations. She knows I’ve been trying to find the real deal stuff. I used to buy some handcrafted soaps up here at local fundraising craft shows, but haven’t seen that seller in a while. Also loved Crabtree & Evelyn’s patchouli soap, but they discontinued it long ago, and have in fact changed a lot in their line, as well as packaging. Both soaps left a nice and noticeable fragrance on the body, but it was quite light.
ETA, sure you were at the very epicenter of patchouli oil usage in the entire universe, along with Oregon!
TGIF all! Not my yard, but a place I love and visit often. Notice how the 2nd flower has an almost tie dyed aspect to it? Nostalgia has been coming up a lot, so…

As if he couldn’t already get any much dang cuter - now this!!
Right? The hair is fantastic but the salt and pepper beard is what kills me.
Totally!
:::::::fanning myself::::::: Umm, is it hot in here?
Well , yes I was. It was useful for covering up the dope smoking smell!
Hey! This is a foodie site!
So keep it about edibles.
Alice B. Toklas gave a recipe for hash brownies.
I know! That was indeed the miasma of the late 60’s and most of the 70’s! Now, it’s just the blatant smell of Mary Jane, even before legality here.
Always a batch of brownies going back then, along with the circle of smokers. Double the pleasure, double the fun…@seal
My ex-colleague, Ian, and his wife went to Amsterdam for the weekend. Went in a cafe and ordered coffee and cake. Not realising exactly what “space cake” was. Said they had a great time but couldnt quite work out why.
