Stupid little useful things

Those who can’t adapt usually don’t get too far.

I promise not to post–again–the video clip from The Big Bang Theory that “Americans can’t handle the metric system.”

I appreciate comedy, dry sarcasm in particular but never watched the show. Television beyond the news is nearly nonexistent in my life.

Metric use at America’s grass roots is about as consequential as whether color is spelled with a “u” or not.

Not taking oneself too seriously is not stupid and can be quite useful actually.

I’ve that ham leg holder, grrrr only used once.

@shrinkrap the leg tasted great for around 2 months, alright 2- 3 months, and completely off after 3 months.

Thanks! What do you think was the temperature of the room?

I left it in a room about 10°C / 50°F around December and maybe slowly getting slightly warmer in spring after the first cut. The seller told us to cover with olive oil after each cutting and covered with plastic film.:meat_on_bone: :stuck_out_tongue:

This is interesting. When I’ve seen photos of them for sale, I get the impression that they’re no sharper than the scissors you’d give to little kids, but from what you say, I’m totally wrong. Especially if they cut chives, which can be roly-poly when cut with a dull utensil.

They’re very sharp. Not mandoline sharp, but up there. In addition to chives, I use them for any herb with leaves big enough for me to hold the stem and chop the leaves. So, everything but thyme, pretty much.

Surprised the seller did not tell you to cover the entire ham with a towel after patting on some Evoo and wrapping it in cheese paper or plastic film …

10 degrees Centig is pretty chilly apartment in December !!! Without heat.

My parents put it on their terrace in the winter when not carving it.

So…on the deck, December to March could work! I suppose a ham holder might be useful for such a project. Not sure about the other criteria.

I know a few cruisers that hang hams from the overhead grab rails inside the cabin of their boat. I don’t think this is a boat but it is the idea.

You just carve off what you want and soldier on.

We left it in the garage. Too warm in the house. Yes the seller said a tea cloth to cover the entire leg and film for the cut part. We are 2 at home, it will need special occasion with friends and family to finish faster.

I will store the ham in fridge for longer time next time.

A terrace … not a deck … Large apartment terraces … Not detached home wooden decks …

Are you writing a book or are you thinking to buy an Iberian ham holder ?

Lots of repetitive questions …

A strawberry huller is a stupid little useful thing which gets put to good use when it’s shortcake time. Another silly little thing is wooden toast tongs for getting smaller bread slices out of the toaster.

Oh @shrinkrap has lots of ideas in her head and is always curious!!

Apologies; I didn’t mean to direct that last comment at Barca. Naf actually gave me the information I needed. Off topic, I know; I am not really considering the stand, but I am considering the ham. That’s quite an investment!

That reminds me; I find a real cherry pattern useful.

Well she stated she is considering buying a ham after all the inquiries.

Thank you for the thought …
