A visit to Mennomex and Gordita Shop in Aylmer
This place looks neat. In Mount Pleasant, Ontario.
It always amazes me to see the different stock cubes that Maggi has for whatever the local food culture uses. I actually prefer them to Knorr… shh… don’t tell Marco Pierre-White.
I am guilty of buying so many Knorr, Maggi, Goya, and other products when I see them, and then not using them.
They are usually delivered to community fridges and food banks just before it’s too late.
I bought 2 Croatian soup pouches last fall. Tried one, donated the other. LOL . Better than Lipton but all of one day’s sodium in a one cup serving and I’m watching my salt.
I bought this German Knorr salad seasoning at the Polish store, when I’m well versed in making Greek salad from scratch. LOL.
I stopped at Camp 31 in Paris, ON for some take-out fried chicken, pulled pork and brisket tonight. Camp 31 has a nice little patio.
Generous and quite good. Chicken was a bit dry but nice coating. I chose pulled pork, brisket and fries chicken for the 3 meat combo.
We have ordered the St Louis ribs and baby back ribs in the past.
Camp 31 participates in a lot of rib fests, so Ontario Hungry Onions could try their ribs, brisket and pulled pork at a rib fest near you this summer.
Great View Orchard in Blenheim near Lake Erie. Great prices.
I also wanted to visit Delhaven. It closes at 5 pm.
I enjoyed a dinner at Ariston Estiatorio in Midland.
The moussaka dinner
The seafood platter
Excellent pork souvlaki, too. I would dine here again.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’m heading up there in a couple of weeks.
Since you are headed to Midland, I will mention, I wasn’t a big fan of their spanakopita (top right) or dolmades (grape leaves, bottom right), which came with the seafood appetizer platter. I am a little fussy about both spanakopita and dolmades. These dolmades were the cold soggy rice type. I like the warm, firm meat and rice type of dolmades better. I would probably order pork souvlaki, or something new next time. The quality here is better than most Greek restaurants outside Toronto, certainly better than any place we have had in London over the past 20 years.
By vibrant beach setting, they mean a fairly upscale Greek restaurant with nice dishware and the requisite painting of a mythical chariot, in a strip plaza in Midland. haha. (Or xaxa. That’s haha in Greek). Friendly service and good value.
Champ Burger in Alliston. Champ Burger also has locations in Markdale and Shelburne.
We ordered the Champ Burger with cheese, $10 smash burger recession combo, and a pork souvlaki in a pita.
Champ Burger also has 3 different vegetarian burger options.
We also considered Gust in Alliston, which has a few Croatian dishes on their menu.
…
The line at Weber’s today, which we decided against.
We also considered Burger Pit in Hawkestone ( Oro -Medonte), which I like, which has no lines and good burgers.
There was an accident on Highway 11, slowing down traffic, which led us to decide to do lunch in Alliston instead.
LOL ok, thanks for the morning laugh. I’m glad I didn’t have a sip of coffee before that one.
Another suggestion for Midland is Dino’s fresh food deli. If you like mile-high sandwiches, this is the place. i had the corned beef on rye which was surprisingly not over seasoned. The bread it’s on is a typical store bought rye, but it was pretty good. If they had better bread, it would be excellent. The place is very busy, so expect a lineup if you go at lunch. That said, Big J and I didn’t wait long. We shared a sandwich and potato salad (not bad, but I prefer mine with just scallions, oil and vinegar) and that was plenty for both of us.
Looks great! Thanks for mentioning Dino’s.
