A classic

(Meanwhile, I won’t tell a certain person that flying the St George’s has very different implication to having the St Andrews/EU flag.)

As always, highlighting your lack of humour

Maybe we can all move on now and focus on tasty Scottish treats?

For anyone who likes vanilla fudge, brown sugar fudge, or penuche, Tablet is really delicious. It’s really addictive. I wish I didn’t have to limit my sugar intake. Commercial Tablet imported from Scotland is often on sale at half price the month after Xmas at Sobeys grocery stores in Canada.

Is anyone else planning to do something for Burns Night this month?

and raise a glass whilst saying Slàinte Mhath!
Did you make haggis?

I think I’ll give it a go. Not making the traditional haggis but there will definitely be potatoes and cabbage.

Aye and nae.

Oops. I’m apparently a total failure at humour!

Neeps & tatties, pan-fried hake over spinach with capers and lemon juice. I’m counting the fish as Scottish ‘cause it’s loosely adapted from this guy’s recipe, and he used to work at The Kitchin in Edinburgh.

I can’t be the first person in this thread to post something I actually cooked, can I? Get going, people!

That looks lovely.

I feel like you’ve been left hanging so I’ll confirm that just about every day I make porridge oats with salt (not pictured) and today, because I’m feeling slightly under the weather, I might have this (although I still have chicken soup and am entertaining making some kimchi pancakes). I hope you forgive me for not making these from scratch but I tend not to have meat in the house and my freezer is rather small (no American refrigerator at mine, sadly).

Haggis and Pizza, Together At Last

a haggis made with ground lamb and chicken liver, no sheep’s stomach or other offal added

Once one is in Scotland, haggis on pizza is more available than one might have guessed. Also on the menu in various chippies or kebab shops: haggis pakora (Mrs Unis which is in my local Coop shown here).

Good to know!

I made a simplified haggis for Burns Night a few years ago, in baking dish rather than a sheep’s stomach. My Dining Companions and I aren’t too keen on forkfuls of mince/ground meat straight, so haggis would go over better if encased in crust, or made into a Haggis Shepherd’s Pie , etc.

I did not expect to fall down the Haggis Pizza Rabbit Hole.

That is a very cute name for a food.

So do you stay in Scotland? It will be nice to have another Scot* on these boards.

*This includes residents. Back during IndyRef and also following Brexit, I appreciated the SNP description of Scotland as a community of people and not a matter of ethno-nationalism.
