You can’t fit 14 people in Joseph’s deli without a pandemic! I go there once a year to buy the sardine sauce and bucatini for St Joseph’s pasta. Even then it’s not crowded. Was this on a weekend?
Nope…lunchtime mid-week. She was stunned. Only reason she went in was because she had placed an order and paid for it already.
Crazy!! Not that I thought about going there before but I definitely will not be going now (at least until March). This year I went about a week in advance of St Joseph’s day. Good thing as it was after stay-at-home and I was not going anywhere.
Not really COVID related, but drove past rumson house today and saw sign up advertising site as available. Guessing that renovation for last September isn’t happening.
{{ deep sigh }} Guess Il Mulino was just a rumor.
Not sure why this bothers you. I’ve never been to any of the NYC locations because the consensus from people I trust has been that Il Mulino is an egregious rip-off with food not worth the sky-high prices. Don’t know if you’ve heard, they’re filing for Chapter 11 for 7 of their 11 locations, not including the Greenwich Village flagship. When this news was posted on another food forum, someone commented that they had no compunction about offering “specials” that were very slightly tweaked dishes from the regular menu but at 3 times the cost.
I only dined at Il Mulino one time, my problem was the seating and tightness of the space more than the food. I didn’t mean it to come across as if " it bothers me" it was just a disappointment because I was hoping for something “good” for the location, I long for the Fromagerie of old.
Regarding the bankruptcy, while I have no personal familiarity with the details the CEO has come out and admitted it’s more a “chess move” to prevent a potential take over from a debt holder. In all honesty in today’s environment with the stresses and challenges anyone associated with the industry, myself included, are facing I can’t look down upon anyone who files for bankruptcy. Regardless if the CEO is trying to “save face” or if it was a necessity I wish the brand well.
Sadly the deal fell through.
Ordered Greek Spot tonight through Uber Eats. Three entrees, an app, and dessert. Order comes and its a single entree and a wrap. Neither of which we ordered. Called Greek Spot and they said the mistake was that there were two orders for a Justin (his account) at the same time. The driver grabbed the wrong Justin.
In the end, we were refunded and told to keep the food. Mom ate the entree that came (chickem gyro) and Justin and I ordered Chinese. This would not have been a huge deal but we waited 90 mins for GS and by the time it got to us, there was little room to do anything. I tried some of the wrap and it was delicious, of course, and mom loved what she had, but not what we planned.
Ugh. I (truly) never do delivery, and this is a perfect example of why. I’m sure there are plenty of people getting what they ordered, but this stuff happens far too often!
I just went through my menu folder, checking restaurants, and La Tombola in Old Bridge and Lahore Grill in Franklin Park are both permanently closed. Pho Da Nang in Sayreville and China Palace in Middletown seem to be at least temporarily closed.
Corso 98, in Montclair, (another one of my favorite restaurants) bites the dust after 21 years
Wow, that is a bummer… That was one of the few Italian restaurants I always enjoyed! At least they’re sticking with their to go side…
Yes, we are going to miss them. I have to try and go there one last time before they close. It looks like they opened up a garden center in Totowa in May called La Serra Gardens. I wish them the best of luck. Elio was always the perfect host.
Tommy’s are opening up in a cpl of the spots.
Speaking of that, does anyone know what’s up with the lincroft one? Is that still a go?
Although a chain, the East Windsor Charlie Brown’s seemingly has called it quits. Although I liked the prime rib and salad bar, nothing else made me want to go there. It was a senior citizen gathering place, but not hip enough for the younger crowd. A new keg gets tapped, it tastes completely flat, there is a problem. No one seemed to care. Sigh.
I heard today that Committed Pig Manasquan has closed. Not sure about their other locations…
And while I think it’s been reported, I’m too lazy to look up thread… Mahmoun‘s in Wall has also closed.
The original Manasquan location is closed but it is supposed to be moving up the block to the old Maria’s location. I am assuming that is still in the works.
Ellen will be happy to hear that!
