Wow. That’s a big one.
I always wanted to go there but the parking
When we lived in Hoboken it was one of our regular stops, I was sad when I read that
We were at Cucharamama years ago and enjoyed ourselves. It was soon after they opened and Chowhound had a lively thread about them. I kept meaning to go back but …
Well, at least the curve was flattened.
Okay, I’ll bite
So I’ve been searching through the Highlands Borough council minutes back to Mar 18th (all liquor license transfers and renewals are supposed to be reported in these… ) and only found one:
Aug 3rd - Xfer from Nicle Caruso to la Bise LLC (from the closed 128 Bay restaurant)
I could find no changes to any of the other 14 liquor licenses in Highlands. Historically, Highlands appears to have done its renewals in the middle of June. I expect we’ll see the list when the June 17th, 2020 minutes are finalized!
So as all liquor licenses in NJ generally expire at the end of June each year, and assuming(!) that the lack of a license xfer would imply that the license at One Willow is still owned by the the last owner of record at the NJ ABC’s publically available list (which is updated each June…).
That would be Sandy Hook Holdings LLC which is registered in Red Bank and not associated with any other liquor license in NJ (as at June 2019). There have been no recorded changes to that business entity in 2020…
If the ownership structure of the LLC has changed, I don’t believe that is made public (although it would be on the license transfer document and I recall seeing it on the license renewal documents)
I also know that any new owners (to a liquor license related LLC) would also need to undergo the usual liquor license backgrounc checks (i.e. is the money clean, are you related to mob associates, etc )
Darn my coffee got cold, thought I’d dig this out faster than this!
Any change that involves one percent or more of the stock of a corporation that holds a retail license must be reported to the issuing authority within 10 days after the stock change takes place. If the change affects less than one-third of the stock of the corporation, the licensee need only amend the application by filing an amended page 11 and also 7 and 8, if applicable. If the change affects one-third or more of the stock, a full 12-page application is required. Publication of a legal notice advising of the change is required if the new
holder of the stock does not already hold 10 percent or more of the stock at the time of transfer. The issuing authority is not required to approve a stockholder change by resolution and no approval prior to the change in stockholders is needed. No fee is required. (N.J.A.C. 13:2-2.14 through 2.16.)
Sandy Hook Holdings probably owns the marina complex. Then they partner with someone to run the restaurant but they keep the liquor license.
Maybe… as the liquor license owning entity has to be the one buying liquor and booze, and also be the merchant of record, that would make sense (as would the ‘instance’ of the liquor license increasing every now and again, but the owner staying the same, with perhaps the partners changing the ownership)
Not so much a restaurant more of a bar but just heard the downtown in RB has closed down for good. Felt a little too old the one time I was there but it was a really nice setup inside. Sad to see them go
The whole downtown in Red Bank has closed down for good? I think something is missing here.
The Downtown was a bar in Red Bank.
We did pickup from semolina last night (awesome as usual) and commended on how very very dead it looked. Red bank was terrifyingly crowded and I was glad we decided on to go…
So what was missing was capitalization.
Ah, yes… Weekends at the Jersey shore, where even during a pandemic, full-time/tax-paying residents can’t get out in their own towns.
They had good bar type food and their sushi was more than passable. Although probably not in the last 10 years but I didn’t feel out of place the last time I was there. That’s a shame, I didn’t see that coming.
@gracieggg I went to downtown Red Bank the first weekend they closed the downtown and allowed the out door dining and bar. The crowd was large, 90% unmasked and -0- % social distancing. I kept my mask on, looked around and left quite disappointed in my fellow humans.
yeah- the one time we went we forgot to order food…really a shame.
It is crazy. People were out in droves on Saturday. Even driving home around 11 PM plenty of people still out. Few masks and WAY fewer wearing it properly!
This is why I’m (unfortunately) not really supporting AP restaurants right now – same issues.
We went out twice in the first 2 weeks were opened but haven’t been since for pretty much the same reasons. We’ve done take out a couple of times but only from very specific places that we know are doing the “right” things based on our definition of right.
