from what I saw they are still going to do catering business, which I Think we’ll see a lot of going fwd: people who can put out good food but who don’t have the ability or desire to maintain the overhead of an empty or outdoor only facility. If you’re doing take out/to go already its very similar. I just hope there’s a market for all the competition the will hit that space.
Just noticed a name change to One Willow. It’s not Trama’s at One Willow any longer. Anyone know what’s going on there?
Moderators: Curious why this was moved to this topic. We haven’t lost a restaurant…
@fershore We covered all things Trama One Willow on this thread around June 20th or so
@seal thank you! (you beat me to the punch)
As seal has indicated the decision was based in no small part by your own post in this thread (above) dated June 18th. Your post was titled; “Trama’s at One Willow is now One Willow. Posted on Trama’s Trattoria FB page:”
While the restaurant still technically exists, it is under new management (possibly ownership though that is vague) and most importantly Chef. The loss of “Trama” of One Willow directly means the restaurant is NOT the same anymore.
It was also deemed appropriate since (in the same post by yourself) they (Trama and his wife) said specifically: " Since Covid-19, I think a lot of us are looking at life with a new perspective," so by their own words this is a loss due to the pandemic.
So the question that was asked in the new thread, is completely answered in this thread so we merged the two discussions.
I hope this answers your question.
Regards,
I wonder why they won’t say who manages it now.
I truthfully can’t answer that, it might be public knowledge but I don’t believe it’s been mentioned on here. Only one way to find out for sure, so I nominate you to take one for the team!!!
Can’t find the post I was thinking of but I did see this: [One Willow]
We have the same owner and management, just a new head chef! And as always the same great view and food! But on Trama’s fb it says: no it will remain open under new management. Ok…
Again all I know is what I have read (mostly) in this thread, from above they posted this:
" For Pat & I, Trama’s Trattoria makes us happy; so we have decided we will be focusing 100% of our time and energy on Trama’s Trattoria. We are sorry to those who will be disappointed that we will not be in Highlands anymore. Letting people down is the hardest part. However we have to do what is in our heart. They say home is where the heart is, and for us that’s Trama’s Trattoria. We love all of our customers, and the last three nights in Long Branch seeing your faces has been such a joy. Thank you for all your support. ”
There is nothing in that comment that makes it seem as if ownership, management or the chef are staying the same. To my knowledge Pat and his wife were in “charge” of management at One Willow, I had witnessed his wife working the front desk and floor on my only visit. Could the GM be the same? Sure, but with Trama saying they are focusing 100% of their attention on their other location, it sure doesn’t sound like they have anything to do with One Willow anymore.
My guess is they don’t want to say it explicitly because they want the restaurant to succeed without them, but it’s a guess.
Espresso Joe’s/ Sunshine Cafe in Keyport:
Combination of retirement and pandemic
Google indicates that Cornucopia in Keyport is permanently closed. Given that it closed supposedly for a month or so about a year ago, I’m not surprised.
No indication as to whether Yellow Rose Diner (its sister restaurant) is still open.
Not a restaurant but…
Their website says this location is temporarily closed, but a friend drove past the Mamoun’s in Wall yesterday and said there’s a For Sale (or Rent?) sign on it.
I tried going to the Mamoun’s in Wall a few weeks ago and it looked to be out of business.
Bummer; but thanks for confirming.
Laurel & Sage in Montclair is no more…personally never been (too far of a drive) but heard great reviews from people.
Yes, Laurel & Sage was one of my favorite monthly restaurants and will be sorely missed. They did not close because of COVID-19. They were planning on closing at the end of March when their 5 year lease ran out. They just weren’t making enough money without a liquor license. They were only open 5 days a week and most of their business was on Friday & Saturday. People don’t dine out during the week in the suburbs like they do in Manhattan.
Cucharamama in Hoboken has closed due to the pandemic after being in Business for 16 years and being one of the NJ Monthly top restaurants every year. The Chef & Owner Maricel Presilla has won a few James Beard awards, one of the few NJ chefs to earn one. I have never been there but always wanted to try it.
