Tried the Hazelnut Buche Cake from Le Genie while it’s quite good I can’t justify the gasp worthy price. Ah well it was for a good cause so didn’t mind it

29$!!! On UberEats I had some promos so it brought the end cost didn’t but still Cedric Grolet prices! I also added this for the next day at a more palatable price :slightly_smiling_face:

WOW!!! I was expecting more $19

Yeah I know I could have treated the person who requested it to a proper dessert at Cafe Boulud nearby for that price!

That looks very tempting!

Picked up a cake from Roselle for someone’s birthday. The cookie box wasn’t enticing so decided to skip it. I am quite familiar with this cake though I think they have reduced the size or maybe we had a larger group. Could be it has become a square shape instead of the round one. Went well but it’s getting a bit pricey for what you pay

I guess a bit of compromise over the Roselle or Laduree.

I got a stack of matcha cookies from Neo coffee (always good) and st John’s bakery short bread. They didn’t have the ginger cookies @DrJohn as I recall your rec. I think I had ordered them a while ago.

Received this as part of a Christmas present package.
First time trying a ‘Pistachio Panettone’ from a Haute Couture Fashion House - Dolce & Gabbana!
Surprisingly delightful to eat. Very fragrant and aromatic. Super airy, fluffy and light. Most of all not overly sweet! It even came with a special butter knife to spread the Pistachio Cream…Super cool!
( Believe

it was from Holt Refrew?)

Nice Charles. Funny I am at Holt now going through the food stuff to pick up some deals. Don’t see it here at flagship location though. Oddly I spotted the D&G panattone at a no frills store few years ago!
So far some deals on chocolates , some fortnum and mason items. Peninsula tea hmmm still priced higher than kusmi which is hard to justify

HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!! Chowfriend!
Any high-end DUBAI Chocolate on sale? Should pair well with the Pistachio Panettone?!
BTW, Border line diabetic, so forced to pass on rum-laced dark fruit cake this year! Sigh!!

I bought a Marrons Glacés pannetone from Holt last year. It was expensive, but I love marrons, so I splurged. It was nothing special

Happy Holidays as well @THECHARLES hmmm I picked up patchi’s chocolates. Dubai chocolate isn’t for me as I find it overtly sweet. Bunch of promos on it at trusty old Costco. Holt Renfrew you can check online and pickup in store if you want to try as shipping threshold doesn’t apply. Fauchon stuff might be worth looking into as well?

Happy 2026 folks! Had the Millefeuille to start the year. Not much is open today to get the dessert fix so this is made by moi at home :slightly_smiling_face:

Did a round up of Yorkville area for desserts as a bunch of birthdays coming up in the next few weeks. Some have restrictions such as no dairy. I think the meringue cake from Amadeus will do. Laduree offered macarons (raspberry) after going through the checklist. Surprised galette de rois isn’t dairy free (says milk butter is fine for the person I am trying to scout)
Passed by le Cafe at four seasons as to see anything new

Chiao!! Until next year!!
This, my last Panettone from 2025…Trying out something new, without nuts, fruits or peels…

A Coffee with Mascarpone Cream Tiramisu Panettone from Sicilly

The bread is not as light and fluffy as the Dolce & Gabbana Pistachio one. The overly sweet crumble crust was IMO a bit redundant. However, the addition of the jarred ’ Coffee Mascarpone cream ’ that comes with the bread was super delicious and aromatic. Not too sweet, its moist creaminess added a delightful and different dimension to the overall eating sensation.

Btw the supposedly best French toast list came out in Post (Yorkville) magazine. I am kinda stumped that Laduree isn’t even on the list let alone being among the best in the city. I wonder just because you are a good chef and run a restaurant that is known for savory dishes makes you an expert in dessert rankings. I reported being flabbergasted by best scone list last year as well. I felt the list was skewed maybe that’s not food quality or taste.
Ah well each their own.
