Yeah agree unless you are looking for certain desserts like prepared stuff from Cafe boulud, other than Le Cafe (new but limited) and Laduree (other than macarons limited selection compared with Yorkdale) there isn’t much I would recommend (Amadeus is just mid imo), dark horse carries some items and eataly is just ok.
Totally agree with you!
I have tried various Amadeus’s products three different times so far…from Viennoiseries to single cakes. Compare to say Rahier, Nadege, L’Avenue Boulangerie, DUO…etc, theirs indeed is just middle-of-the-road ho-hum! Nothing special!
The plain (hah, nothing plain about it) chocolate tart was delicious. Whoever is creating these sweets has an excellent palate. It’s very chocolatey and just sweet enough with a little bit of salt, caramel and maybe apricot flavour in there, as well. The shortbread base crumbled and dissolved in the mouth. Wow! Who needs to go to Paris with Duo in town?
I do!!..almost once a week since I live in the neighbourhood.
However, I only go to the Pastry shop at Hwy#7 and Leslie, where chef owner Eric works his magic and comes out to chat with me from the back.
@THECHARLES friends from out of town thoroughly enjoyed Duo and they like their chocolate desserts. Merci. Makes me want to make the trek one day there. I have kinda limited my likeness tof chocolate desserts to a souffle, mousse or hot chocolate shot though. The first two believe it or not I prefer the version I make at home! Especially the mousse as yet to have one that’s even worth considering. Cafe boulud has a decent souffle though I like a pure dark chocolate or raspberry one at home. Hot chocolate the SOMA spicy shot hits the spot for moi.
DUO has way more yummy stuff than just a few chocolate delights.
I just live a few minutes drive from there. If you by chance decide to come up, do give me a yell and I’ll try to meet you there, have a coffee and a mini dessert chow-meet?!
Result is positive while the chocolatine isn’t as good as Le Genie (costs a lot more as well) it is better than the Laduree version which is priced similarly.
BTW, elvisahmed,
Is the pastry shop inside Fourseason’s Cafe Boulud a stand-alone retail space or do I need to have lunch in the cafe in order to allow me to purchase their pastries? How’s parking around that area?
No it’s a stand alone Cafe at ground level with seating which is getting very popular. It’s at the entrance of D bar if you are entering from the main lobby. If you didn’t want to enter from the main lobby it’s on the right as soon as you enter from the Bay Street entrance. Just ordering these would suffice as saw lots of people ‘working’ with just coffee.
Hmmm parking you can park across the street at the green P that’s just before Bellair on the right. Street parking is parking ticket galore from that I see. Other fix priced options as well on Cumberland and Yorkville as well. . I have been without a car for a decade and yet still pay valet fees for the spots I own sadness so my knowledge is limited to what I see on daily walks.
Their hours are limited as they close at 3 PM. Hmmm Le Genie is better for chocolate au pain IMO as I mentioned earlier.
I had delicious ice cream from “Scooped by Demetres” tonight (I ate at the Waterworks food hall.) It was their “cajeta swirled goat cheese,” which I selected after trying a couple different flavors. Really, really delicious - highly recommend. I passed another location of this Scooped operation earlier in the day and it made me curious, so I was excited to stumble upon it at the food hall.
