Ramekins

I have 4, which I purchased ages ago. Have you seen the prices recently?

I bought 4 ramekins at Nicety’s in Oakville in Feb 2026, which would also ship to Ottawa. I bought enough other stuff from Nicety’s to reach the price point where they don’t charge extra for delivery.

While the Pillivuyt ramekins at $15.99 CAD are more expensive than the $3 CAD Chinese-made ramekins at Kitchen Supply shops, the prices for Pillivuyt ramekins were around the same or lower than Denby, Emile Henry, or Le Creuset ramekins, and the Pillivuyt porcelain is a thinner ceramic which I prefer.

My Pillivuyt Sancerre Ramekins were $15.99 CAD each before tax.

The CrĂšme Catalan dishes were $24.99 CAD each. I purchased 3.

I already had 4 Emile Henry ramekins that are around 15 years old, which I bought at an independent department store that no longer exists . I also have 2 Le Creuset ramekins I would have bought at Winners or Homesense 10 years ago, and around half a dozen Pyrex ramekins that are 20 years old.

When I’m paying $5.95 for an iced latte, $17 for a submarine sandwich, and $15 for 4 raw chicken thighs I still need to cook, $15.99 for a porcelain ramekin made in France seems like a good deal!

I love both Pillivuyt and Apilco
The soufflé dishes and baking dishes are workhorses, and the cafe au lait bowls are just plain fun. Lately I have also been using the gratins a lot.

This makes sense. I’m a big proponent of “buy it once, buy it right”. I have several Le Creuset ramekins, but I don’t bake in them. Even though their stoneware in made in Thailand, they are of very good quality.
I have been eyeing some Apilco stoneware for some time but have yet to take the plunge. If I ever get married again, that will probably be on my registry LOL

It is fun, and sometimes useful, to scroll through eBay for Apilco and Pillivuyt. Although most sellers know and price to the market, I have stumbled on some amazing deals. I looked for ages for a filtre coffee pot. They were inevitably crazy high, often over $100 and some near $200! I got mine for my bid of $30.

I am too chicken to buy ceramics off eBay.

I bought 4 small Pillivuyt bowls today.

I am thinking about this casserole

It seemed reasonably safe to me, but the whole online world gets weirder each day.
