Ramekins

Any thoughts on ramekins?

I usually like to buy ceramics and glassware made in Europe or North America.

I currently have some cheap white ramekins with origin unknown, some Emile Henry ceramic ramekins and some Cuisinart ramekins.

I’m thinking of purchasing some taller and larger ramekins and some wide ones.

Open to all feedback.

Same here… I have no idea where they came from…

I also have some small Corning Ware dishes that I use for ramekins. They are different designs that I collected from Goodwill (over the years). They are pretty and larger than the standard Ramekin.

My wife and were talking this weekend about how we are ramekin hoarders and use them all the time. We have multiple sizes and use them for pinch bowls, prep, garnish holders at the table. They just get used all the time. I really have nothing useful to add other than enthusiasm for their place in the kitchen.

I use them for bacon grease, egg shells when I’m baking, poaching eggs, you name it!

Yes, I have a rag tag collection that caught my eye at Goodwill (over the years). I use them for all manner of cooking/projects.

Sunshine loves warm cobbler with ice cream. Depending on the size of her sweet tooth (that night) I grab the dish that works.

I will post photos of the ones I like next time I go shopping. I browse.

These are some oven safe ramekin adjacent dishes I like, that I might keep an eye on.

Looks like Staub ramekins are currently made in China and in Portugal. The ones sold at Homesense in Ontario are made in China.

BIA ramekins are currently made in China or Brazil. Vintage BIA ramekins were made in France.

I am looking into these Pillivuyt ramekins from France. Wow. Expensive! I might look into dead stock Pillivuyt or second hand Pillivuyt.

I’m a fan of cheap, white ramekins, and get them at the restaurant supply store.

That said, it would not hurt my feelings to have a good supply of Pillivuyt in many shapes and sizes.

We received a whole bunch Apilco Porecelain Ramekins from Williams-Sonoma when we got married more than 20 years ago and they are still in daily rotation.

I was reading online about some of the made in China ramekins being made of lesser materials, that could leach nasty stuff. That’s what is behind me considering Made in Europe or Made in USA new or vintage ramekins.

I might try to figure out where to find quality used Euro ramekins in Toronto.

The cheaper ones sold at restaurant supply in Toronto tend to be the Chinese-made ramekins.

I have a few white resto supply ramekins, which came with take out creme brûlée. haha. I’m a collector.
