Popcorn fix

I bought a container of popcorn that advertised “huge, fluffy kernels” but delivered little half-popped disappointments. A long time ago I read a fix for it, which involved putting the popcorn in a glass jar, adding a little water, shaking the jar regularly and keeping it in the fridge. But I don’t remember how long the absorption was supposed to take. I’ve used this method successfully before, but it’s been a couple of decades- does anybody know? 3 days, a week? Two?

I do this, but also store it in the fridge, so I can’t be sure. I would guess a day or two.

" Airtight containers—plastic or glass—are your best bet to avoid moisture loss, especially when stored in a cool place like a cupboard.

Avoid the refrigerator. Some say the cold storage makes the popcorn taste better, but many refrigerators contain little moisture and can dry out kernels.

Saving “Old Maids”

“Old Maids” is an old-fashioned reference to kernels that fail to pop. If you find your stovetop popped popcorn has a lot of leftover kernels, the kernels might need a moisture boost (popcorn needs between 13.5% and 14% moisture to properly pop). Fill a jar with popcorn, add a tablespoon of water, cover with a lid, and give it a few good shakes every few minutes until the popcorn has absorbed all the water. Store the jar in a cool place and try again in 2-3 days!"

Not sure if this ATK link will work, but this sounds like a fun experiment

Yeah, all the popcorn here is sealed and refrigerated. I got some for husband’s birthday, not realizing he already had a bunch.
Thanks for all the information!
