Pinto Bean Broth

I have about 2-3 cups of fairly thick, unseasoned broth rendered from the Instant cook of 2 lbs of dry pinto beans.

I was thinking about a gravy. I’d like advice about that, or any other applications you might suggest.

I’m not sure I’ve ever “saved” the cooking liquid - I’ve used it with the beans in stews, soups, and to thin pureed beans - but I can’t remember saving it to use on its own. Not that using it couldn’t be delicious.

You say unseasoned broth - so no aromatics or herbs/etc used when cooking the beans?

You could add it to anything I guess - how dark is it when cooked in an Instant cooker? (I don’t have one) I think the color/cloudiness might be the only shortcoming when deciding how to use it.

Added to soups would be delicious. I like your idea of a gravy, for some reason some type of braised pork sounds good with a bean gravy. You could try cooking rice in some (though I do wonder about the color thinking about white rice) - or even wild rice cooked in some bean broth could be super tasty.

I wonder what pasta made with bean water would be like - it could be delicious and really give the pasta a deep flavor.

Sorry I don’t have any first hand experience but curious what you try with it!
