Twin pops are sold in cherry, grape flavored styles but root beer-no longer.
Kroger makes a root beer float pop (as does Barq’s).
It looks like there might be a Mug variety of straight root beer pop, too. None of these are twin pops, tho.
If only I had access to a Kroger without a plane ticket. But, I’m on the hunt once again…
That cream of onion could be used in “cheater” chicken pot pie. Thawed (from frozen) bag of mixed veggies, diced cooked chicken, your soup, some very-small diced potatoes (I use cream of potato soup and very small diced onions…). Add Italian Season / spice of your choice. In an 8 x8 pan. Top with crescent roll dough or puff pastry and bake.
Chicken livers have become “seasonal” at my grocery since the pandemic. They’ve been stocked in the freezer case at the grocery (not fresh) for many years now. I tend to double-buy when I see them – they may as well hang out in my freezer. I know they’re used in some canned pet foods so perhaps there are commodities “wars” over the supply?
Kraft pimento cheese spread in a jar disappeared while I wasn’t looking for it. It was a holiday treat for us growing up, always served on the tiny square party rye bread. Recipes for Pimento cheese - as a household staple in the USA South - was a topic of much discussion and experimentation a few years ago on CH. My attempt resulted in too much of a not-so-great spread. I see that my grocery deli sells it for $14 / pound. Is (homemade) still popular elsewhere?
My guilty secret food, pimento loaf, disappeared a while back too. It must be a pimento shortage!
Or the pimento cabal is trying to drive up prices…
I always wondered who bought Pimento Loaf
Now I know!
I buy it, too! I limit myself to 3 slices at a time - maybe twice/year. I do love the stuff and our grocery store always has it (Boar’s Head).
But i am not dead yet!
We chewed it when we had a sore throat as kids. If I can remember, I will bring you back some, it’s still available for the same purpose!
Oh, cool! Thanks!
I’ve seen chewing roots available at health food stores in Canada. I would think a place like Kalustyan’s might have them.
I’m not really on a quest (although I would be happy to have a root right now). I was just reminiscing.
It’s been a few years, but I still have an (old) jar from McCormicks. To be honest, I was not impressed with the mix anyway - smelled more musty and dusty than aromas more reminiscent in pickling brine. I think I grabbed it one year when I realized my corned beef didn’t come with its little spice/pickling pack. Your home made mix probably was 100% better.
Agree—I am not a fan. I have used McCormick pickling spice from a freshly bought jar. Better when fresh except that the mix contains spiky, hard fragments of bay leaf that have a way of clinging to the mixed veggie pickles I like to make. The bay leaf fragments are even visible in this product photo on the McCormick website. I won’t be buying another jar of that stuff because I don’t need sharp bay leaf shards in my pickles.
Sounds like a plan, as long as it isn’t too salty …
