Oh yes, the box with the dots. Root Beer and banana were my faves.
Helen Keller Quote: “Life is short and unpredictable. Eat the dessert first!”.
Not sure if the attribution is accurate, but good words to live by!
When I was a kid, my family spent part of the summer at a folk festival in upstate NY, which had a large craft and food market. One of the vendors sold various “chewing roots,” one of which was licorice. I looked forward to that every year. Birch was also pretty good.
Me too… but the current Popsicle site is a train wreck. I get they’re marketing to kids, but parents buy them and perhaps they should put more investment in their product as opposed to entertainment affiliations.
Mine came solely from the Good Humor truck!
That’s the way I feel about St. George’s Terroir.
Speaking of Good Humor, I was absolutely inconsolable when they discontinued toasted almond bars.
You should probably stick to Beefeater, which seems inoffensive at the most.
Me, too.
Just about anything. I’ve used Krakow Nights and/or Tsardust Memories on popcorn, in balsamic vinaigrette, on any animal protein, and yesterday, devilled eggs.
There might be one out there that I like better, I just haven’t found it yet.
Love the Flavor of Birch! And Sassafras.
That was another one!
Are you in WA? Also in the great state of WA, the non-specialty grocery where I shop now (Freddy’s) has hocks, but not out. You have to ask the butcher, and they bring them out from the back. They ask how many you want. And they aren’t very good. All bone no meat.
Or Grocery Outlet, they almost always have smoked hocks and turkey legs.
Huh. We have a local one of those but I haven’t shopped there.
I like this response. The “floral” stuff is indeed a bit out of the mix. I noticed this to myself when I was recently at a farmer’s market in Olympia, WA, where one vendor was majorly into herb plantings. (I actually found some Holy Basil starters!). The same vendor had a couple of racks of various lavender starters. I didn’t even know there were that many varieties of lavender. Clearly the person was an outside thinker, much to my taste.
Hard to find SunDrop with the pulp in it. Most people I know who bought Chowards used it to cover up alcohol. Popular product.
Yeah I had some rants on Chowhound about how “the yuppies” (or whatever) had “discovered” oxtail stew and jammed the price through the roof. I started making beef neckbone stew instead for a while, tossing in the rib cartilage from when I’d trim spare ribs into STL style rectangles.
Same problem happened with picanha. For years I could get it pretty cheap but then it doubled in price over what seemed to be less than a year as it got more popular. This was 2018-2019 time frame, so not related to current inflation.
Scandinavian licorice, both salty and sweet was sold thru a restaurant. I would always purchase while eating there but it was a rarity, yes.
