@ZivBnd if you need and want some vegetables, Hodge Podge is like a fresh summer vegetable chowder, and should be available on some menus right now.
Also keep your eyes peeled for blueberry pie, Blueberry Grunt and butterscotch pie.

She was from Quebec. Thus my use of Frenchified, not French.
Maybe
Phoenikia, the live music scene has eluded me so far, even with the Halifax Jazz Festival starting today. I did stand and listen to a street performer for a while this morning. He was pretty good in my view, but I am not a discerning listener. But I will be looking for Celtic music in Cape Breton.
Still trying to figure out the first minute of the Sloan video. LOL!
Hodgepodge, blueberry grunt (LOVE THE NAME!) and butterscotch pie all sound good and will remain on the radar!
Natascha, the donair is a very mildly sweet snack. I was wondering if it was going to be too sweet, too, but it really is good. After Phoenikia explained that it is condensed milk that gives it the sweetness it made sense. It really is good!
Barney, I took a day time ferry from Halifax to Dartmouth, and the temperature went from 78F to around 66F in about 200 yards. It was a nice change at this time of the year, but at night? Not sure if it would be comfortable in shorts and a tee.
Peter, do it! It is not cheap but so far the people have been so cool and the food is outstanding! And Halifax on a warm day with fog drifting between the buildings? That is very chill.
Wabi, I used to ride, but I have to admit that I prefer to have a couple tons of car protecting me these days. But it would be a beautiful ride, even the parts I have seen so far and I have not even gotten up into Cape Breton yet. Just Isle Madame, so far.
Already looking into it . I love trip planning, gives me something to look forward to. Not having to go through customs/ immigration and no currency exchange is a huge bonus for me.
Unless you live in Boston. Bostonians are used to people taking live lobsters on the plane (although that may have stopped after the pandemic?).
Yes, I’d imagine the local airline culture is similar in most parts of New England!
The Glass painting you show above is pure kitsch, which sadly passes for art in some spheres. I saw a lot of art like that at Art Miami, but even more depressing.
Maybe Schwartz’s is inconsistent? when I was there last year, it was ideal.
I am in Margaree now, just back from Cheticamp where i stumbled into a duo playing the violin and keyboard at a park.
Here is the jig that i liked the best of the lot…
Plus a pleasant little lament. I hope my links work!
Before that i had enjoyed a half dozen very fresh Cape Breton oysters on the half shell at the Rusty Anchor. Place was jammed but the waitresses were still very kind. A truly nice place to dine.
And a rather good lobster roll with chips.
Cape Breton is a rather pleasant place to be.
Grand Étang marina/port.
Thanks for the pictures of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. I still have wonderful memories of the motorcycle trip I took in the late 80’s. We certainly enjoyed the Nova Scotia sea food.
Glad you liked the Rusty Anchor. That was one of our favorites last summer.
Is that the Centre de la Mi-Carême? We loved that place. My daughter did a craft project there (painting a mask) and we got to have a long chat with one of the lovely women there meanwhile.
Is that gorgeous lobster roll huge chunks of claw only?? I see no little bits at all.
It is! And it is a beautiful place!
They are just building a second land marker further inland by a hundred yards so that the fishermen can visually line them up on foggy nights and sail directly into port by aligning the two markers, kind of like airport runway lights but for boats. Or so it appears…
I am so glad you are enjoying Cape Breton. It’s one of my favourite places in Canada.
By the way, add Newfoundland to your bucket list!
They tuck the little bits inside the roll. The little bits were a touch sweeter than the claw meat.
It might be a year or two before i make it to Newfoundland.
So far Halifax and Cheticamp are my favorite spots.
If you like art, check out Freya and Thor.
Bakery - Au Coin
I tried to go to F&T twice. Parking lot was overflowing as i drove North and they were closed when i came back from Rusty Anchor.
On the upside, all national parks in Canada are free entry this summer!
