So this is not entirely FOOD news, but since there are eateries included, I figured why not. This was from my visit a few days ago.
The last days of the Monmouth Mall. You’ve heard of ghost towns, and this certainly qualifies. While some sections still had several businesses open, there were vast stretches with nothing in sight. You could hear a pin drop. Almost all of the food court stands are gone. However, Master Wok appears to be going until the bitter end! Justin and I grabbed a suspect cup of Auntie Anne’s pretzels-- still the same. Overall a surreal, somewhat disheartening experience. There were quite a few people walking around, but like us, there to take pictures and have one last visit rather than shop. No doubt a piece of a lot of people’s childhoods about to enter the history books. The mall has about a month left but if you’re going to say goodbye, better do it soon.
Side note, the “Cup 'o Pretzels” was so lukewarm and leathery that I for sure thought a bathroom visit was going to occur before we left. Thankfully, that was not the case!
After we ordered them, I asked the person at Auntie Anne’s when their last day was and she rolled her eyes, smacked her lips, and said, “No idea. That’ll be $7.45.”
Tried Umi buffet at East Brunswick next the Asian Food center that has been ‘Coming Soon’ for like 2 years. This was the spot previously occupied by the extremely disgusting Teppanyaki Grill (I think that was the name).
Dinner was $39 per person but we have a 10% coupon. They do have a really great variety of sushi and cooked food and even mini hotpot.
We got there around 6:30pm on a Friday and waited only for like 5 min. During our dinner, there was a huge crowd waiting outside and the place was pretty packed for the 2 hours we were there.
If buffet is your thing, definitely worth a visit.
I’m surprised they stayed open as long as they did after the Manasquan store opened. Everything there except the bread was prepackaged. And the bread is brought in already baked at their central baking facility in Pt Pleasant.
