Simply Southern in Belmar is closing

Have to admit I only went a couple of times; that’s not the kind of food I go for regularly, but what I had was delicious and the owner was lovely. Hopefully they can find a better location for year-'round traffic.

We’ve been going to Simply Southern about once a month and really liked the food and service. We’ll follow them wherever they (hopefully) reopen.

Yeah I only went a couple of times, mostly because I can’t really eat anything in the menu due to breading or flour in the gravy. It’s never good to see a place close though

New spot for those who enjoy an old fashioned fish fry joint. (and a couple other items) Sirens Seafood located on Rt 36 in Leonardo at the old TST bbq/mini golf spot. Still in soft opening, went yesterday and all items were good. NE Clam chowder is tasty and not overly thickened. Fishermans platter was solid, and clam strip po’ boy was a little overstuffed but manageable once you got it in your hands. Clams were surprisingly tender. Hope they do well, they seem to have some pedigree behind them with the principals having backgrounds from Lusty Lobster and 2nd Jetty.

Thks for this. Big fan of this type of spot though usually head to keyport for our fix. Some decent cred behind those names

Did TST close down for good? Never made it over there tbh

Yes, to my knowledge TST is gone for good as of now.

Sami’s Mediterranean in AP will become Tic Taco Taqueria

The Fireside Grill in Marlboro has a new sign up Bad Hat Dumplings & Cocktails. Website shows an “Asian Theme” for food and fancy cocktails. Not a fan of this place except for an occasional take out of nachos. Is the sports bar concept over. ?Lots of money went into that place.

I know nothing about this place except @CurlzNJ turned me on to it on Instagram a while ago. It looks kind of interesting.

I wish they had a cocktail menu posted as some of the drinks they posted look really interesting.

Yes I saw that and have zero interest in going here when I can basically roll out of bed to get there. Just curious if the sports bar concept is still there or did they just change their concept.

Based on their Instagram posts, it sounds like both places are open.

Ugh more traffic

The people behind Cardinal Provisions in AP opening a place in the Bell Labs building in Holmdel in early spring, supposedly a breakfast, lunch and dinner place with an outdoor patio.
I’m very excited as I am here at least 3 days a week for the very excellent gym. The current food offerings here are very ordinary so this bodes well for me.

Cardinal is one of my favorite spots in AP (Reyla and Laylow are the others) - their food is consistently interesting AND delicious, and the women who own it and their staff are lovely people. They work their tails off and have since they opened - no surprise they’re going for another spot!

Tried eating at Bad Hat last night, new place that took over some space from Fireside Grill on 79 in Marlboro. No seating available for walk in at 6pm , reservations only.Looked kinda dark, small bar and those seats were taken as well. Wound up eating at Fireside had mediocre brisket platter. She had a huge nachos grande one beer one soft drink $ 51 before tip . I’m pretty sure I won’t be back. Place was half full they had a lot of empty tables and the bar was half empty. Menu uninspiring.

Well, not exactly food news, but I’m happy to see that they’ve replaced the angled parking at the Hazlet Aldi’s with ordinary perpendicular parking. (So far they’ve done only that half of the lot; I’m assuming they’ll do the rest eventually.) It may make sense in a parking garage with one-way aisles, or on the right hand sides of streets, but not in a big open parking lot.

That parking lot is like the wild west. Definitely an improvement. I assume it is related to the endless project of building that wawa in the front.

From NJ.com:

At Tiam Tiam, an inventive restaurant in Harrison, classic late-morning fare is flipped on its egg-lovin’ head.

On the menu, guests will find items like a crab, egg and cheese sandwich, thick char siu glazed bacon over rice, and Taiwanese fried oyster noodle among several others. The menu is exclusively available on Sundays.
