NJ Food News

Don’t be ridiculous! I sent them a full description of what happened. Crickets. They don’t give a cr*p about a tourist–just about $$.

If anyone cares, the Boston Market in Middletown is apparently becoming a drive-thru Starbucks. Just what we needed. :frowning:

At least you should be able to pull off the highway to drive thru. The new location further north is a disaster.

So you replaced one chain with another one and one might argue you have now a better one in this location

Now it’s changed its name again (not sure about the ownership) to Hyderabad Spice. It’s so new that Google doesn’t even turn it up.

Seems like the best thread to put this on… laughing at this post on my local NextDoor board, as the responses are “must have been mislabeled” and “that’s crazy” and the like, while I’m thinking @NotJrvedivici and other HOs would probably want to know about it!

“ShopRite in Wall a Prime Rib Roast $39.99 per pound/5.69lb = $227.54… I put it back.”
And in the photo is a clearly labeled bone-in Pat LaFrieda prime rib.

I saw that as well this morning. I just finished the last of my rib roast I cooked Friday for a late family Christmas that I picked up for 36 bucks on sale from 99 bucks.

The only Pat LaFrieda meat I’ve bought is ground beef which ShopRite carries. But this got me curious, so I checked LaFrieda’s website. A Prime Black Angus Standing Bone-in Rib Roast, dry aged 30 days, 4-5 lbs. costs $264.71. Longer aging = way more $$$.

Two more down, according to the APP:

On Wednesday evening, two more Shore restaurants announced their closures: 100 Ocean, an oceanfront restaurant at Long Branch’s Wave Resort, and Denino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant in the Manahawkin section of Stafford.

Had mild panic attach then saw that was not deninos brick. I didn’t even know they opened a spot on Manahawkin.

Good news is Wave plans to reopen 100 Ocean as something new later this year. But Denino’s was my favorite, such a bummer.

Back in 2018, yeah.

Can’t believe I beat @CurlzNJ to this one.

Reyla is having a 5 course dinner with cocktail pairings on Wednesday January 19. No info at all about the food, except calling it comfort food. Takes place from 6:30 til 9 pm.

As Rita Rudner said, “I don’t even like doing things that feel good for 2.5 hours.”

But check Reyla’s website if you want to plunk down $125 for this one.

@seal You beat me to it because I’m not dining out right now!

Shop Rite Middletown was nearly out of chicken and totally out of ground beef and several other beef products. Is this news? Couldn’t figure out if it was because of 1) COVID shipping issues, 2) COVID panic buying, 3) impending snowstorm panic buying. To quote Louis Armstrong, “What a wonderful world.”

I’m not the panicking kind, so whatever. But it’s been a while since I’ve seen it this empty.

Milk and bread must be only available on the black market at this point?

The ShopRite on Route 34 in Wall was also out of chicken, except for the almost full case of organic brands which are not in the same case as the “regular” chicken. They did seem to have every other kind of meat though I didn’t check all that closely.

The only other section that looked pretty bare was cat food. Luckily there was enough of the food my cat eats AND it was on sale. I picked up a few cans.

No bare shelves in New Orleans right now and king cake season and carnival season started today

And just to round out the trifecta, a friend sent me a photo from the ShopRite in Neptune today… Not one package of chicken in the land. And another photo of the refrigerated case, which had one bottle of OJ left. While he was there, I was at the Costco in Ocean and bought absolutely stunning bone-in pork chops for $2.19/lb. :woman_shrugging:
