Maria’s had been sale for a while. I know at one point Max Devro’s, which ended up across the street where Remington’s used to be, was in the mix. Max Devro’s actually bought their first location from me so I’ve followed them. They were strictly breakfast/lunch but have expanded their menu and bought Remington’s liquor license.
I know one of the people involved in the planning has some physical limitations so probably is especially intersted.
@eleeper - Does ADA compliance require access to the entire restaurant? The indoor space is/was pretty big and rooftop access would not be required to eat except maybe in the case of a pandemic.
looks like the world is getting just what it needs: two more McCloones spots…another Robinson Ale house in Pier village is set to open in the old Wawa Sushi spot, as well as a burger joint in PV. Both will have a booze license, so expect them to thrive, as per the immortal words of the long unseen VikingJak.
Also, one sentence on a Koren take out spot.
Funny–I recently saw that his sign is still on the former Modine here in AP and wondered if he was coming back in the spring–doesn’t appear to be the case (which is fine w me).
I’m gonna give this spot every opportunity to amaze me because honestly, I have yet to have a bad meal at any D. Burke restaurant and I can ride my bike there. The Happy Hour Specials are well prepared and a bargain…the $5.00 burger at The Drifthouse is obscenely underpriced. I get it, you could make up the difference in booze, (we have) but you have to respect the hook…there’s lobster options on that burger (claw meat). I feel there’s a judge the artist, not the art sort of sentiment out there w/r/t DB, but from our personal exchanges with him over the years we’ve found him amicable, affable, gracious, and funny. So much so that if there is a $5.00 burger on the Happy Hour Menu at the Red Horse, the R.H. former Rumson House, I will buy a round of up to 10 burgers to any skeptic who is willing to slum it in Rumson…date TBA, indoors only.
I will always give every place a chance, especially one as local to me as this, but I have had bad meals during his running of the Fromagerie and had a less than apologetic response from him when I sent a meal back to the kitchen.
Things evolve and I can guarantee you that now that he lives in Atlantic Highlands he’s going to be onsite and hyper involved…we had Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at The Drifthouse without family this year (other than the two of us) due to travel restrictions and it was great (although Thanksgiving was a better deal). There’s a devilish whimsy behind some well executed dishes, from clotheslines to lollipops.
So am I !!! However I’ve done exactly that on the last 3 incarnations of this location and I have been sorely disappointed each time, including Mr. Burkes first attempt. Thus my sadness. ((sigh))
I’m in for spot # 8 on the burger list!!! (mental note to self, get tux cleaned for slumming it in Rumson)
The only David Burke restaurant I thought was any good was the original David Burke and Donatella. After 2 disappointing meals at his version of Fromagerie I stopped trying his different ventures.
I’m willing to take a burger slot and give it a chance but mostly because I miss being out with my fellow HO’s.
