A quick Google shows she has a Facebook page, but the last work posting is at The Farmingdale House, which Google shows me as closed–it’s now Woody’s Roadside Tavern (purchased by the current owners in 2012). Based on Toni’s photo, my guess is she’s partially if not fully retired, but who knows? I didn’t do a deeper dive than that…

The seafood place was “Ray’s”

Memory is a strange thing! I suddenly remembered that the fish market/restaurant was on Markham Pl., in Little Silver. A little internet sleuthing, et voila!: Ray’s Seafood. We eventually ate there after Colts Neck closed. Much plainer interior than the fancy Colts Neck.

Via the Google, that space on Markham Pl. is now occupied by Restaurant Diomede. Acc. to the website, family-owned and operated since 2015. Fish & seafood menu. We’re always looking for a good sit-down restaurant of that type that takes reservations (they do), so I’ve put it on my “go to” list.

@seal, You posted while I was sleuthing and typing!

has anyone ever been? I see it gets good reviews online, but live in area and legit don’t know 1 person who’s ever been. also not huge fan of the market, went once after the took over and it was not great.

The name of the French restaurant just popped into my head: The Fox & Hounds.

By the way, @NotJrvedivici, I Googled the name after I thought of it and found that it was mentioned on an old (started in 2013), very long CH thread, “Favorite Defunct Monmouth County Restaurant,” on which you and a few other HOs (but not I) participated.

Here’s the link: https://www.chowhound.com/post/favorite-defunct-monmouth-county-restaurant-909724

I appreciate you bringing it up. Saved a boat load of trouble!

We’ve eaten at Diomede’s twice, both times with a group of 8 or 10. Very friendly service. Everyone raved about their dishes. Both times, I found mine to be a tad too salty (and I’m a fan of salt). The chef was not gracious about the feedback. I’m sorry that I don’t remember the details.

Bamboo Leaf in Bradley is pretty damn good too but is a hike for most. In the summer place gets jammed.

Only Newark so far…

When I put in my zip code in Woodland Park they said they deliver to my area.

Nice piece about AP restaurants in the Philadelphia Inquirer:

I love how the article, while talking about the different kinds of restaurants, mentions that there is a restaurant that specializes in toast. I guess the author is referring to Toast, but they don’t specialize in toast.
Did they even do research or look at the menu?

:joy::joy: I thought the exact same thing! It tripped me up as I was reading and then I realized that’s exactly what they were talking about. Since I’m not a fan of that restaurant, I don’t care, but I thought it was funny. Nobody pays editors any more from what I can tell!

After the Farmingdale House, I believe that Chef Toni was the chef at The Brielle House.

Hmm. That does sound vaguely familiar. I think she may have been in Long Branch for a while too.

A couple of short stints. I recall West End and North Long branch.

Anybody remember The Continental on Brighton Avenue in Long Branch?

Briefly in Ocean Grove, too, at a place that went into Moonstruck’s space
