Except MOGO lol

Now I know why Kevin the bartender left. He was an institution!

My general rule of thumb is the closer you eat to the water the worse the food is. I totally agree with @CurlzNJ that best places in AP are away from the beach. My three favorite places are all within a block of the railroad tracks.

The only exception is my deck. I live very near water and I think my cooking is usually ok.

Well there is that but if I have to place my order and then eat food elsewhere I don’t consider that a restaurant

I’d like to make a reservation please…

“…the closer you eat to the water the worse the food is.”

I generally agree with that premise. However, I feel On the Deck, in Atlantic Highlands, is an exception. We enjoy sitting on the outdoor deck alongside the water, and we stick to ordering the things that are well-prepared and tasty: Manhattan and New England clam chowders, fish & chips, crab cake, onion rings, and Key Lime pie.

Technically not a restaurant it’s a taco shack IMO

And a good one at that! Also, for those who don’t know, they have a brick and mortar spot on Cookman Avenue as well - and it’s open year 'round.

But on the boardwalk it’s not a restaurant.

Yes

Yes I was kidding about MOGO. But it is really good

Not sure if this is news per se, but since there isn’t a Hoffman’s thread, I figured I’d put this here. On my way back from Last Wave/Rosie’s Pizza recently, my friend and I decided to stop in to Hoffman’s in Spring Lake. Because… HOFFMAN’S.

Turns out they offer a ‘flight’ of 4 scoops (NOT tiny ones, either) - flavors of your choosing - for $12.95. Considering the fact that I generally get a kid’s cup ($4.75) because it’s a HUGE scoop and the fact that I knew I had 1/2 pint plastic deli containers at home, I went for it. Came home and got to sample all 4 as I transferred them to stock my freezer, and OMG. The pumpkin ice cream has candied pecans in it. The PB Nugget (I think that’s what it was called) has ribbons of PB + chocolate-covered peanuts :yum:, the espresso mocha chunk is as good as ever, and so is the black raspberry.

I generally stay away in the summer and while it was still packed that night, they really do move everyone through quickly and efficiently.

Thxs for the heads up. We hit Spring Lake and haven’t since Nicholas opened nearby.

My friend knows I love Nicholas Creamery too, and asked which one was my favorite. Have to say IF I had to pick one, it would be Hoffman’s. I do sometimes find that while I’m super excited about a NC flavor, it doesn’t always pack enough of it. (Hopefully that makes sense…) But I’m VERY happy to eat either/both/separately/together! :yum:

I agree and I wouldn’t compare them. Could reason to go back to Hoffman’s.

I 100% agree. NC’s concepts are often far more interesting but execution is sometimes lacking.

Hoffmans seems to be so many people’s favorite but in my opinion only because of the large size scoops. There are much better tasting places.
