The Mainstay (formerly Bonney Read) in AP has announced it’s closing.
Man, Cookman. Ave turnover is hard to keep up with.
Yes/no… I do feel like the changes have slowed down considerably in the last few years but I imagine the rents are astronomical!
I have missed out on way to many restaurants that closed quickly.
I have never visited The Mainstay, but I can say this much; I really liked Bonney Read. I didn’t understand the re-brand to begin with, it seemed like a case of - “If it ain’t broke why fix it”.
Same for me, guess he would rather be on TV
Probably made more money with less headaches
I was told by friends in the know that he 100% owns Black Swan, but not The Mainstay. Evidently his investors were done w that spot, but the way it was told to me, “it really wasn’t HIM” so I’m not sure he’s super upset about it.
There’s a new ShopRite in Old Bridge that’s just amazing off Route 9 . It’s owned by the Freeway supermarket chain from NYC At least a gazillion sq feet . I had some bakery items, a calzone , an amazing Canoli Cake just to mention a few things I have already had . Big coffee bar, prepared foods and just about anything else you could imagine Although it’s a bit north of my home it’s going to take the spot in my grocery rotation formerly held by Net Cost & Marlboro ShopRite
Wait, I’m confused? They sell lumber there?? Cause’ that’s a stud if I’ve ever seen one!
You’re my new favorite person in the world
Jersey Shore restaurant to appear on ‘Diners, Drive-ins and Dives’ this week - nj.com
Heights 167, in Point Pleasant Beach, is one of the places featured tonight (Oct. 4th) at 9 p.m. I’ve never heard of this place.
I did see the episode last month that included Mutiny BBQ, in Asbury Park (mentioned at the end of this article). Also had not heard of it.
Anyone been to either of these spots?
Yes–Mutiny is excellent! I’m especially fond of his brisket and also the smoked turkey.
Hot take… I do not like the Old Bridge Shoprite. Their format is different from the other Shoprites (the Sakers mainly that I’m used to) and mainly my gripe is they don’t do the same clearance deals as them. Instead of having dedicated clearance sections the clearance items are spread out through the store with the regular stuff, and the discounts aren’t as good. They feel more like a Wegmans than a Shoprite, if that makes sense. The one I used to go to in Morristown had the same kind of setup, maybe they are owned by the same people.
Mister C’s Beach Bistro, known for serving food and drinks with an ocean view in Allenhurst, is closing.
The restaurant’s last day will be Sunday, Oct. 20, said Karen Marzulli, who has run the restaurant with business partner Chic Perrotto since 2006.
They are at the end of their lease on the 200-plus-seat restaurant, which adjoins Allenhurst Beach Club. Both are owned by the borough.
“It’s all good,” said Marzulli, 67, of Long Branch. “This is not a sad closing. We’ve known this date for 10 years.”
Can’t say the food ever drew me in, but I’ve spent some VERY enjoyable weekend days sitting at the bar in the winter with well-made drinks and an amazing view.
I was just reading about it. Not a huge loss in my eyes.
Hopefully someone takes over the lease
Some one who can make good food would be good
Well, we can hope. Places with a nice view tend to get by in the nice view and food is an afterthought.
I mean places on the boardwalk in AP are lower on our list of places to go eat, unless we want something convenient we can walk two blocks to.
YUP! When people say "Asbury Park has all those great restaurants… " I usually gently explain that we really only have a few. And they’re not on the boardwalk.
There are NO good restaurants on the boardwalk in Asbury .
