Lol “better than most” and “not too bad” are undoubtedly low bars but that’s what we’re dealing with around here
In regards to AP after 6 years I decided to go back and see if I was missing something in my life
That answer is NO is everything now owned by McCloone & a few groups on the boardwalk?
I was looking for a cocktail & something to eat and music but all the places were empty at 1pm on a holiday weekend and the only music was a guy with a boombox playing Curtis Mayflies ( love Curtis) even the yappy hour at Wonder Bar only had 2 dogs
Can’t see the shoreline from the boardwalk because of the umbrella population but plenty of parking
Wasn’t interested in seeing Cookman area although I do miss Taka
O well so much good intention and hope that Keansburg has the vibe that AP doesn’t have any more it’s so sterile and boring it’s just so sad
Wow – wish you had asked for suggestions, but too late now. I know, there’s no great food on the boardwalk. (But show me boardwalk where there is!)
I don’t know if you were here today today (Saturday) or yesterday, but I just walked home from the cheap seats at the Pony and this town is packed to the gills. I can’t wait for everyone to leave!
Should you decide to come back, I still say the best food downtown is at Reyla. Excellent cocktails as well!
I’m so done with Asbury, no offense but I was there Saturday and had been offered South Side tickets but he couldn’t sing 6 years ago and that crowd is older than me. So why bother? My friends owned a place about 10 years ago called Aqua inside Convention Hall that place was busy all day and night with great food and drinks it was on the North side of the building they were closed by the Madison Marquette people and they got nothing going on there but a dead place Aqua always had music even after Labor Day
When Marilyn opened up the food in her places were very good that’s recent history but Hurricane Sandy screwed everything up for her
Let’s not forget no music on the boardwalk places during the day on Labor Day weekend
I won’t regale you with real old memories of all those great music spots that were driven out by conditions beyond their control but Asbury was dancing and rocking all day and night
Sorry you’re never going to know how much fun it was and how many creative people were there
The sidewalk sniffing for Bruce and the general gentrification of my once vibrant hometown is nothing but the burbs with out a lawn
Asbury definitely has been turned into a mall with an ocean like Pier Village
BTW tried Reyla long ago it’s not that great however did have a great experience at Cardinal looking forward to trying their latest restaurant in Bell Works, Holmdel
Don’t mean to sound rude after reading my initial reply .
I spent over 40 years in AP & it was like going to your 50 year HS reunion & realize the hot girl has aged poorly.
It’s even worse if you were the hot girl.
(Not that I was ever anywhere near that.)
I went to The Grand Tavern on Friday night then to The Stone Pony for “Almost Queen” and had an absolute blast. Will be back for “Yacht Rock Revue” in three weeks and I cannot wait.
Then respectfully, you have my permission to remember it as it was! I assure you that while it’s not perfect, the current iteration works for some of us who are here full time (and I’m SO ready for the crowds to go home). To wit: last night was the 3rd consecutive night I’ve been out for live music. That never happened once when I lived in NNJ.
I do NOT think we have the greatest collection of restaurants but 100% agree on Cardinal Provisions and am looking forward to Mabel as well.
Thanks for making me smile this morning
That’s cool but my point was there was always music nights and days
Completely agree. We’re so lucky to have access to quality free music daily and a lively arts scene. Restaurants have admittedly gotten worse (imho due mainly to gentrification and catering to the tastes of the new suburban crowds).
Believe me, I’d love to see the restaurants and/or stores doing something during the day as well. FWIW, most of them have music on Sundays during brunch. Keep in mind that these musicians want to be paid, so it has to be worth it for the restaurant to have them. RBar does a great job on the weekends – the entire patio all afternoon on Saturdays And also during brunch on Sundays. But it’s not 7 days a week.
So happy they have the best pancakes ever
The Skillet in Freehold has outstanding pancakes…but it’s noisy as all get out there.
Could be worth a try now that the kiddies are back in school, thanks
$1.29 special pallet sized sale front of store at Stop&Shop. I don’t buy them but my poker buddies love them frozen.
$1.99 at ShopRite, but only Thu-Sat. (I hate these three-day sales; I suppose that should go in the supermarket pet peeves topic.)
Great price, me they go into refrigerator
Lemon poppy my favorite ones
